Pioneer elite 2006 50" tv How can I change from

You can't change the resolution on the television itself. You change the resolution on whatever you have connected to the television. Let's say it's a cable box or a blu ray player you've got connected to the television. First off you have to connect it to the television with a component (green, blue, red, white, red) cable or an hdmi cable. Then you make sure it is only connected to the television with either a component cable or an hdmi cable. This may sound ridiculous but there are some people that have their cable boxes and blu ray players connected to their televisions three different ways ( an hdmi cable, a composite cable, and a component cable) when they only need to have it connected one way.
Select the proper input on the television. Set the cable box or blu ray player's resolution to 1080i or 1080p (in the case of the blu ray player if it the tv will allow it).

I own an insignia 42"

The TV resolution is set by the video sources, not at the TV, in this case, your Dish network box is the one that is sending out 480p so the TV will display what it is being fed with.
What does Dish TV say aboyt this problem? How about the setup menu on the Dish network box?
Your TV works the same as your PC monitor, except that your monitor does not have a tuner, you adjust the resolution at the PC not at the monitor. 480p in = 480p display.

How do I go from 480p to 1080dpi on my 65inch HDTV

If you're using an HDMI cable your display will automatically adjust the settings based upon the video source. Make sure that your source is capable of outputting 1080p. If it's an HD Cable Box or DVR, the maximum resolution it can display is 1080i. If you have one of these HD boxes, set it to only display 1080i as there will be a delay every time you change channels from a channel that is not naturally at 1080i.
If your source is a standard DVD player, it can only display images in 480i (or 480p if it is Progressive Scan) and therefore your TV will display the picture in 480 resolution. If your source is an upconverting DVD player it will display up to 1080p however, Keep in mind that DVD's are in 480 resolution and that regardless of upconversion (or upscaling, though improved, the picture will not be in HD.
The only way to achieve a true 1080p (not dpi... that's dots per inch... that's a printer term. The "p" is for Progressive Scan as opposed to an "i" for Interlaced) is from a 1080p source, i.e., a Blu-Ray disc player playing a Blu-Ray Disc with the use of an HDMI cable. Component Cables can achieve 720p/1080i only with your TV as it does not support 1080p over component cables.
As an aside, there are some media players that support 1080p output and some DirecTV Boxes and DVR's d oas well for 1080p Pay Per View movies.

My HDMI 1 input is set to display in 480p not in 1080p???

I think you have to change the settings in your HD box. Look on the diplay window of your HD box, if it says 480 there, thats where you need to change it so it will change then on your TV.

Picture is not good

Good choice on the TV. I'm getting the same TV real soon.
I've been with Directv for over 7 years. And they have upgrade the boxes alot. Just wait until you get your new box the H21. It will be the difference between night and day.It looks great with the 720p TV that I currently have now.

Right now your PS2 and the old Directv box is only putting out 480p. Which will look ugly on the 1080p. You'll have to wait until you upgradethe box and use HDMI cords. PS3 puts out 1080p.

Look at the Directv web site, they should give you a big discount on the upgraded box for being with them for so long. They did for me.
