Make sure that the thread is under the tension spring then thread it throgh the hole in the spoolcase,push the spoolcase retainer over to hold it in then turn the balance wheel towards you to pick up the thread through the hole in the needle plate, pull both threads back and sew away. I can supply a manual for this machine if you want one.

When you say 'Vintage'-- how old are we talking about?
Please describe the belt...
Is this an old Pedal (or platform that you rock your feet, to make the drive pulley go around)
Is it a 'pedal' powered machine?-- one with a round leather belt?
If it is the latter--
Is that belt all dried out?-- or is it still supple and still providing a good surface to grip the grooves of the 2 pulleys?
