SOURCE: AV-DV75 volume control not working
Hi Deebo check the following website www.dalsani.com www.repairworld.com good luck open the set and you will find the part number printed on the body of the component. NB.but i am in the belief that it IS your IC that is damaged.
SOURCE: Volume Control
The volume control shaft lube, over time and heat exposure, will flow down and corrupt the contact between the volume twister and the spring loaded sensor. Pull the cover off the tuner, locate the volume control and take out the two screws holding it in. It looks like a small circuit board with the volume twister attached.
The base of the twister is hooked to the circuit panel by four metal tabs. Pry these guys gently away and pull the twister free. There will be a metal disk at the end of the volume control shaft, and will have a goopy lube residue on the face of it that can be cleaned with electric contact cleaner or some other kind of solvent. Wipe it clean,(do not immerse) reattach, and test. Worked perfect for me.
Good Luck,
F
SOURCE: protect displaying
Protect on any reciever usually means that it has reached its maximum capacity of volume (known as clipping) and at the reciever is now automatically reducing the volume to avoid damage. This some times is triggered if the reciever was used hard and is now damaged so you would need to bring it to a repair shop. Sometimes its caused by a bad wire to the speakers, a short to say. Check all your wiring, make sure its not overheating and getting plenty of air. Some where its recieving a signal telling it to go into protect mode.

SOURCE: Denon AV Receiver Model AVR3600 locked at'' Protection '' mode
The problem with this receiver is NOT the power supply, but the output stage of the amplifier section. The most common failure is shorted output transistors. There are problem detection circuits that will shutdown the receiver and display the "protect" message when a problem is detected. This is to prevent further damage to the receiver and speakers. The typical parts cost for this repair uis between $20- $40.
