Working on Maytag centennial electric dryer for a friend with little money. No light inside of dryer but the bulb is good. I opened the back and tested the thermal fuse, element, thermostats and all have continuity with no wires attached to them. I tested the door switch and the start switch and both have continuity when in use. Power is coming into the timer although I don't remember which colors I had checked to see 240 volt. I bypass blue wire on timer and the white wire on the starter switch with the red stripe and plugged into 120 volt and ran the drum and motor for a while so I then changed out the timer but only to get the same result. The wiring connections on all the ends look to be in good shape. I hope to go back today and continue working. I don't know if I have received a new defective timer, or perhaps I should post the wiring diagram for this dryer on this site in order to get help. Thanks

Things that cause a dryer not to run: motor, broken belt, thermal fuse, timer, door switch, start switch, improper voltage, and wiring.

SOURCE: Whirlpool duet electric wil not heat

Remove 1 wire from the element . Your 220 V comes from ...110 motor , 110 control board . Check which wire is not getting 110 V , trace it and see which it comes from . That will tell you which one is defective .

My centennial dryer MEDC200XW1 wont start.

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

There are several reasons your dryer will not start.
1.) Bad door switch?
2.) Plugged up with lint?
3.) Thermal fuse?

a.) On the back of your dryer is a hot air distribution manifold. It is easily un-bolted to remove. In the bottom of this manifold dryers get plugged up with lint. If you have a air flow problem your unit will shut down.

Your unit will also not run if you have a bad door switch.

But, here is where I am going to put my money on as your problem.

High limit thermostat on your heater element in the back of your unit.

  • The thermostat is functional to 221 degrees (Fahrenheit).
  • Install the thermostat in your dryer's heater element housing box. Be sure your dryer is unplugged during installation.
This High-Limit Thermostat part #3977767 Cost: $15.00

You can replace this part yourself.

Get back to me if this does not solve you problem. You cab jump the door switch.

Dryer not rotating.

you need to remove the front cover either by removing 2 screws at the lower edge of the front panel,if no screws on this model, then take a putty knife or flat blade and at the top of the front cover between the front and top cover insert it at the edges about 2 inches in and pop the retainer clips inside the panel, then swing it out and remove it,then remove the top cover and then you can access the belt

When i open the door light does not come on

I'm assuming this is a dryer and if the dryer still stops when you open the door then the switch to stop the dryer and light the light is probably working so it sounds like the bulb burn't out.
Locate the bulb and remove it. It's probably only a couple of screws and a bulb that you push in and twist to remove. Inspect the bulb and if it looks bad call around for a replacement and remember to take the old bulb with you to verify the replacement is the same.
Hope this was helpful.
Good Luck!
