TV shutting off by itself

We have a 4 year old Sharp Aquos 42" LCD. We had a Direct TV HD Receiver hooked up to it, but every time we turned it on, the TV would shut off. So we basically canceled the receiver and just used the TV to play video games. Now it TV is doing the same thing with the Wii. It won't even stay on for more than 5 seconds. What is going on?

Thank you for your response. The TV was around $1400 when we bought it new. You really think a power supply would cost over $1000?

I was also told that the model of the TV I have might have a bad SD card and I need to update it. Unfortunately I can't find any cards for the model of this TV (LC-45GD4U). It seems they have all been discontinued. Do you know anything about this?

The power supply is going bad and should be replaced but for the cost you will pay for the repair you can buy a new TV. Get the extended warranty, it will pay for itself.

I'm trying to hook up a sharp aquos tv to an rca surround sound receiver and it won't work? any suggestions? I have tried turning off the speakers on the tv....

First thing to do is get the owner manual for each and start checking both settings and actual hookup---usually a surround system will work on all types of sets---when in doubt read the owner manuals.

If need either manual Google that model number with "manual" to try to locate it.

As far as the set goes it may require either a variable audio output source or in some cases the out to be a fixed level.

Speaker distortion on SHARP 37" Aquos Hi Def

When you are changing channels you are using the tuner of the sat reeiver. the tv does not know you are changing a channel . It is just receiving a constant signal from the SAT receiver. I would suspect a problem with the receiver. Try another one first .

Is it hd ?

HDMI is by far the best solution with this unit. As long as you have the HD package from your carrier and the receiver has HDMI outputs this Aquos will perform well.

Turn off closed caption on input(component) on Sharp Aquos 42"

I have a Sharp Aquos 46" and go a Comcast HD receiver as well, and had the same problem turning off the Closed Captioning. I order to turn it off you need to go into the box user setting by (starting w/ the cable box and tv on) pressing the power button for the cable box then the menu button for the cable box. This will open up the user settings menu. Just toggle CLOSED CAPTION to DISABLED.
