I need to get an owner's manual for a Lumix dmc-fz5. Can you help me?

The DMC-FZ5 works with any SD card, 2GB or smaller. It will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

you must go to the panasonic online or the supplier where you did buy the camera, and ask them about your CD, and tell them is free or there are some charge. Maybe you have some friends with similar camera, and copy the disk.

Forget the cable. Do what the pros do...use a card reader.

You could just download one to your computer from the support section of the Panasonic website.

Just use a Cardreader for this purpose.
... or maybe try using a new cable.
