I have a Maytag Neptune electric dryer model MDE5500AYW. Using sensor dry the timer says 38 minutes, it counts down to 31 min then goes to a 1 minute cooldown and shuts off.

It works normal on time dry. Any recommendations? The vent is clean with good air flow.? Thanks

There is a wetness sensor bar assembly inside the dryer. It looks like a flat hotdog with two metal strips on it. It is near the front of the machine and the clothes have to touch it when they are drying. If the unit is dirty, damaged or disconnected, the sensor wont tell the program to keep running and the unit shuts off. The sensor may have lint or softner on it, may have come disconnected in back. Dont disassemble the drier without unplugging the power first.

SOURCE: Model MDE5500AYW. Seems like dryer occasionally

there isn't a timer on this machine, you have a control board,if the time isn't counting down correctly sounds like you have a bad control board that's inside the console

My maytag neptune MDE5500AYW will not stop unless it is unplugged

if you have it on time dry and it counts down but won't shut off you most likely have a bad computer board, part number 33003028 and it's around 180 dollars.on older machines it would be a problem with the timer not going to off but you have a computer board in your machine and it takes the place of the timer and other functions, just about everything runs through the computer board.

Periodically, the display will change to the wrinkle release mode from sensor dry mode (all by itself), and the timer will show 18 minutes remaining. If I switch it back to sensor dry mode, the display...

Hello & Welcome to FixYa
If you have already tried cleaning the vent then the problem is with the Thermal fuse. When the thermal fuse goes bad it cannot be reset and replacing it is recommended repair. It is located on the blower wheel housing inside the rear panel to the exhaust duct. You can test it for continuity before replacing, if that is fine the problem is either the door switch or the control board. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

My Maytag dryer model number MDE5500AYW has lights on, but won't switch settings. It is stuck in time dry at 18 minutes. Yesterday it was on sensor dry 47 minutes. Do I need a new control board inside...

OK, your control board and LED are integrated, so you will need to just replace the control board. I would try a hard reset before replacing the board. Pull the plug or, shut down the appropriate breaker switch for 5 minutes. Re apply power after the 5 minutes are up. if you continue to experience this fault, replace the control board asap.

NOt drying clothes like it should

Has air flow problem, check to make sure the vent going to the outside is not blocked. If it isnt, you should be able to take off back cover of dryer. Should be a duct that air goes through, take it apart and make sure there is no lint in bottom of it. I had the same problem and that fixed it.

99 minutes

It sounds like you may need a new timer. Has water or anything gotten into the timer. This could be causing a short or faulty reading in it.
