Sony DVD recorder # RDR-HXD790
the machine is functionless and its screen states ''Up Date'' . I can do nothing with it, not even turn it off at its own switch. It is only a couple of months old.
Last evening I was upable to operate the machine and realised that the screen on its front, where it usually states "Welcome" or the function or channel states "Up Date". It is still like it this morning. What can I do? Thank youLast evening I was upable to operate the machine and realised that the screen on its front, where it usually states "Welcome" or the function or channel states "Up Date". I had the same problem.
I did a 'factory reset' - press & hold down the dvd 'stop' button (Square) & then press the on/off button. The screen should clear, & then the friendly 'welcome' should appear as the unit boots up again.
You may need to reset your own personal settings in the set up menu - but hey, you're back in business.
Hope that helps.
Rev David.

have you tried resetting both machines, also if they where stored somewhere cool and then brought into a warmer area it may just be condensation, if this is the case leve the machine to acclimatise for an hour first.
To reset power up and remove all discs, then press and hold the Stop button on the machine and then press the power button, the unit will power off and will be reset to factory default.
I am having exactly the same problem too! Freeview on TV works perfectly so can't be a 4G issue. Wonder if it is regional issue? We get our signal off the Winter Hill transmitter. Someone please help!
Problem was solved by Holding down the "ENTER" button for no less than 10 seconds and after releasing it press "SYSTEM MENU". This will take you to the setup screen on your TV.
where all settings can be made from there by following the on screen directions.
Set your Television to the corresponding input line.
If you have the DVD recorder connected to your television input 1 line.
Set your television to input 1 line.
The recorder is just waiting for your command to set your time and area ...etc.
DVD-Rs do work with the RDR-VX500 ...... I had not recorded on mine for a few months after I ran out of the last batch ....... then I tried recording on the newer Sony DVD-Rs I had ...... would not record on DVD-R ..... turns out the instructions say the recorder will not work with any DVDs faster than 8x .... It looks like it's recording but it doesn't ..... then I noticed the newer DVDs were 16x ...... found an old 8x and tried it and it works fine ..... turns out the unit won't record slower on a 16x, it just won't record at all ...... get 8x and you'll be ok
