Your are on the wrong keyboard setting. Look around the typewriter,usually on the left side of the keyboard, and you will see a setting 1,2 or 3. Keyboard one is the one you want.

it sound like you have a bad print solenoid and there is a repair kit that some companies are selling with instructions that should resolve your problem.
The problem may be the ribbon or the media you are typing on. try typing on a mulit part form, if the copies are good then its the ribbon (OLD) or the paper (GLOSSY).
It sound like you have a broken part. If the hammer is not hitting hard enough, the armature theat make the hammer strike the keys is broken. This is a common problem with the ax's
there is a slide switch on the L.H. side of the key board that reads 10,12,15, PS
the switch needs to match the print wheel stile you have in your typewriter. most typ's have 10 or 12.
PS stands for proportional spacing a takes a spicule print wheel
My SX-4000 is also typing different letter than what I am striking.
I am looking for the Keyboard setting on the left side.
I can not find it, please help.
