Question about Mackie Music

1 Answer

I just acquired a Mackie 408m box mixer from a friend. It was in storage for a long time apparently and she had no use for it. I'm planning on using it with powered speakers so i am using the passive main mixer/monitor outputs on the front. When i turn it on i have the following issues: 1. Massive crackling noise from the main eq. When moved it makes a lot of noise. But when placed in the 0db position the noise disappears. 2. The main eq also doesn't appear to work. 3. The LED level meter stays lit up until about the -10db level on the monitor side. When i purposely peak out the mic feed into the monitor out, the meter has movement and shows what seems to be the actual output level. Anyone esle experience issues such as these? I've already opened up the mixer and tried to clean it out as best as i could and used deoxit.

Hi, the crackling noise means it needs a service, was it stored in a shed or garage ? As damp storage is the likely cause.

    As far as i know it was stored in a storage closet. When i opened the unit up, it was filled with dust and spiderwebs. I don't think there was access to any moisture to the mixer but I can't guarantee that.

    Would it be possible to somehow do some DIY maintenance? We don't have any certified Mackie dealers where i live. It's extremely difficult to get any piece of equipment "professionally" fixed here.

The speaker connections are on the BACK and are "Speakon" connectors... These are special plugs and these apparently can also accept 1/4 inch plugs. It appears that the MINIMUM impedance should be no less than 4 ohms, NOT 2 ohms. One of the back connectors is for the mains, the other ois for the monitor soeakers. The FRONT connections are line level which doi NOT drive speakers,

Hi my mackie thumps 100 watt aren't delivering a decent volume ,,I,m using mackie mixer please help

Is this a new problem? In other words, was it working correctly at some point?
You ned to isolate the problem. Plug a different source into the speakers and plug the mixer into a different amp/speaker. See which part isn't working correctly.. Either way, it's likely you need to take the part that's not working to the shop. You can contact Mackie to find the nearest service center. Service Locator Mackie

Need a power transformer for a Mackie 1202-VLZ mixer

The transformer itself will have the codes you need to replace it either printed on it or on a label stuck to it. Mouser should have what you need.

Mackie mixer will not work with windows 8

well depending upon the mixer and windows version you may have issues. Windows 8 is a 64bit platform, your mixer may only have 32bit drivers (x86). Try visiting the mackie forum for your mixer.

MAckie 1604 VLZ Pro Mixer, running QSC 1850 with jbl's from main outs. I would like to hook up powered subwoofers. What is the correct pathway?

The best way is to use a two-way crossover between the mixer and the amplifiers. In your case, the low output from teh crossover would go to the powered subs, the highs to the QSC. Use the crossover adjustment to set the frequency crossover point to get the sound quality you require.

Mackie 1604 ---> Crossover --- Highs ---> QSC --->Speakers
-----> Crossover --- Lows ---> Powered Subs.

Can i have a breakdown as to what would be hooked up where for the recording with this mackie mixer?

thaqts a little vague, what equitment do you have to hook up to it, specifically. i need makes and model numbers for everything you plan to hook up, microphones, amplifiers, speakers, effects processors, compressors, corssovers or varieties of electronic and acoustic instruments.

wiothout specifics, all i can say is "plug mics into whatevver mic imputs, and keyboards into whatever input, and your amps/speakers to the main outputs"

you are asking for quite a lot, try to be more specific about your external equiptment, and try to narrow your question down a bit, and i will be happy to help you out.

No volume control with 2 faders on Mackie CR1604 mixer

If all other functions work for those channels, the most likely problem is the fader itself. These can fail and operate more like switches rather than faders. Without witnessing the behavior, I can not state that for sure. While these mixers are not the hardest to work on, they are time consuming. The faders can be purchased from Mackie directly. If you need to have this repaired, any shop that repairs audio gear should be able to erpair this for you. Where are you located?
