Question about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 Digital Camera Black

Open Question

Panasonic Linux DMC-ZS40 zooms in and out opposite way of lever.

I have had my Panasonic for 5 years and recently the zoom has been acting wonky. I will zoom in on something, then if I want to adjust out, it will zoom in more, or I want to zoom in it will zoom out. Trying to get it back to default can take quite a long time. Any ideas? I love this camera.

SOURCE: My panasonic lumix DMC-ZS1 has "Zoom Error". How

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

SOURCE: HF10 zoom goes without any explicit request

I own an HF100 and i had the same zoom issue. I purchased a replacement zoom key assembly directly from canon (phone 732-521-7230 cost is about 25 dollars), and installed it myself. This has fixed the issue for me, and i am very glad i didnt have to pay to have it serviced. You can buy the part yourself and install it if you feel confident in your ability to disassemble/reassemble the camera correctly, or shop around for a local camera shop that can swap it out for you.

Remove the batteries for 60 seconds, at the same time press power and hold for the juration of the time, this will remove residual voltage and reset the processor ic, "long shot" if no change the zoom part of the lens is malfunctioning, the zoom motor or gears are jammed.

My 5 year old panasonic DMC-TZ27 seems to have jammed as it won't switch on!

Try the most basic step first. Please check if the battery is fully charged. If not it is not providing enough juice to the motor that turns the zoom lens. Please charge it fully first and give it a try.
If not, try re-setting the camera. you can find it in the menus.
if not the worst case scenario, the zoom motor is burnt, please take it to the service center for necessary repairs

Picture not focused at 12x zoom

It's probably something to do with a lag or jam on your shutterspeed. so when you hit the button, and move you get a little blur. If its not this you might need to have your lens cleaned inside and out due to the camera zooms and catches the blurs on the lens after zooming so far in. I would recommend taking it to your local camera shop for adjustments and cleaning.

Do you mean in your camera or on your computer. If on your computer Google K-Lite. Hear you can download the codec drivers to update your computer to view and hear the movies you record.

Zoom lever sticks

Hi, the only reason the zoom lever sticks is dirt. Either dust or some sort of liquid may have spilled on the camera. If you wipe it off, it does not help as the liquid gets into the zoom lever mechanism. It will have to strippd and cleaned.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01 Less than 1 year old

same problem with ours, only 7 months old. We returned to the seller under warranty, and they fixed the problem FOC. They stated "lens adjustment" on the repair invoice.
I think these machines are not as sturdy as we are led to believe, and the slightest knock or bump sends them a bit squew wiffy!

Zooming problem

I have the same problem. I have no fix in rec mode but if it happens during playback; press menu and select the zoom options. You don't have to pick any but just keep the menu displayed on the screen. I do this while recording the tape to my DVD recorder and it solves the locked zoom problem. The menu display does not get recorded.
This zoom problem is a big pain. We should start a class action suit against Canon. It started within a year of ownership with mine. I bought a Panasonic recently and haven't looked back.
Panasonic doesn't have the slick Canon marketing/packaging but it is a much better machine.
