Furrion DV3100 won't play captioning during foreign dialogue. I have the choice to either have subtitles throughout the whole movie or none at all. When I turn them off, it automatically turns off the subtitles that are embedded in the movie.

SOURCE: divx greek subtitles

look in the menu and try to change the encoding, There should be 3 options, Unicode, Cyrilic & Greek. Select greek if the .sub or .srt file is in ANSI encoding, or select Unicode if the file is in UTF-8 or Unicode encoding.

To find out the encoding of an .srt file the simpliest thing to do is open them with notepad and got to "File" -> "Save as", The encoding should appear in the bottom of the dialog.

SOURCE: emerson dvd player - background sound lauder than dialogue

Greetings surfjax,

If you will allow me to make an assumption, you do not have a 5.1 surround system connected to your DVD player. This is a common experience with users of a standard TV or stereo receiver if a movie is being presented in 5.1.

In a surround sound system the center channel speaker provides almost all the vocal tracks while the side channels will provide music and some background noises. You'll still be able to hear the voices in your side speakers, but it will be muted and over powered by music or sound effects.

Some DVD players allow you to "Downmix" the surround signal to stereo. You might want to look around your sound setup on the DVD player or check your owners manual.

Hope this helps.

With TV on, turn off DVR and hit menu on DVR remote - you can disable CC from there.  Worked for us - got the idea from another fixya post.

SOURCE: SUBTITLES WILL NOT GO OFF

Be sure to check the closed captioning of the TV as well and turn it off. This worked for me.

DV3100. CD load but I'm never able to play ????

Hello Linda, what brand is your DV3100, Marantz or Furrion?
In the same way it is possible that your player needs a cleaning of the Laser Pickup
Try playing a DVD, if you read it, the lens would supposedly be clean and you would have it under the infrared reader, in charge of reading the audio CDs or video CDs
I hope my comment has served you

When I watch a movie and the dialogue switches to other languages when foreign characters are talking, I dont get any of the subtitles. I have to turn subs on when this happens. V frustrating.

Maybe that's how it works, unless there is an auto subs or you must leave subs (aka subtitles) on.

You did not specify a make and model tv to comment on exactly.

How do I remove talking subtitles on my digihome tv without a remote

If the subtitles are played by the TV then you can stop closed captioning. However, if the captions are part of the movie, then you have to select movie settings at the beginning of the movie or click these using the menu keys to get manual control without a remote.

Have no remote for the device.so i have been playing movies manually! how can i take off the captions.

Normally when a DVD is inserted, the subtitles option (if it appears in the on-screen DVD menu) is set to 'OFF' by default, but since you do not have the remote, you cannot access it. Some DVDs have the subtitle/captions enabled at startup, so there is nothing you do can do without the correct remote for this model (which may no longer be available anywhere) and it's even worse if the subtitles are not in English or the audio language is not English or both!

Nice to have a remote (universal one if you can find one which can operate this model) then you can have basic control over it, but I cannot assure you that it will turn subtitle/captions off per disc. Just one of those things - but you can look around for a universal remote (if it has subtitle button) and it might work. Or you can look around at secondhand remote/DVD decks online etc.

Up to you what you decide to do here. If it comes to the crunch, and you can no longer tolerate the subtitles being on all the time with each disc during manual playback, consider replacing the whole player (this is cheaper in the long term) - but only as a last resort, since Blu-Ray players (with DVD playback support) are becoming cheaper to buy. Something to think about later on if necessary.

Cant get the subtitles of the screen been pressing the subtitle button thanks.

Are you sure they are subtitles rather than closed captioning (if it is TV rather than DVD, it is closed captioning)?

If it is closed caption, pressing subtitle won't turn them off. If there is a button that says "Closed Caption" or "CC" press it. If not, press menu and look for the CC option (it should be under video or audio depending on the TV). Turn it off.

If you are watching a foreign language movie on TV (not DVD) it is likely hardsubbed (you can't turn the subs off because they are burned into the video).
