I have a Toshiba 50l1400u. A week ago there was a dark spot which after a few mins of the tv working I would turn it off and back on then the spot disappeared. Today the pic just disappeared but the sound is fin and screen has a dark blue ring not black. Is this the tcon board that should be replaced?

It is my guess that you have some intermitent solder connections in the Vertical output circuit.

Yes, you do need to set up the convergence in order to get the picture geometry correct. the antenna and maybe some other settings will need to be restored through the appropriate user interface screens. You will need your owners manual for a guide.

the digital board is famous for failure in that model. You can get replacement digital boards for that model at www.tvrepairworld.com if its not listed leave them a email as they only list a few of the boards which are available.

I had exactly the same problem with my LE40B550 which I bought in July. I phoned the place I bought it online (eBuyer) and they put me in contact with a Samsung repair centre who fixed it under warranty. It took them 2½ weeks to fix it and get it back to me. The note that came back with the TV said they had replaced the IP board. I think the part number was H40F1 9HS.
The repair centre paid less than £50 for the board (it shows on the returns paperwork).

If you only bought yours in August, and haven't had it fixed yet, I suggest you just get in contact with whoever you bought it from and get it done under warranty.
