I have an ASUS A54C, running on Windows 7, and can't remember the password. I can't access BIOS to change the startup options.

I've successfully used a Hiren Boot CD to sort this problem on another ASUS machine, but I need to change the BIOS set up to start from the CD/DVD drive.

First off it has nothing at all to do with windows.
if the BIOS admin password was turned on then lost.
then you have no access to bios, and will never boot any OS.

by DESIGN.

what screen is locked you never said.

nor posted a photo of your screen.? failing?
some PCs have bios PW and even HDD PW.

w7 PW is and easy hack but not BIOS, again by DESIGN.
This PC is I think 10 years old (near)
here is the 7 layers of PC passwords
each has its own cure. and in this order. see?

Try pressing and holding F2 while powering on. Continue to keep F2 depressed until setup menu comes up.

SOURCE: which key to press at startup to gain access to BIOS E2180 Intel

at initial startup, entering BIOS setup should be the DEL key (delete key).

but you can also hit F12 to bring up a "boot menu" if your computer supports it. this will allow you to boot from another device without having to go into bios setup

SOURCE: Dell Dimension 8300 - Can't Boot from XP Disk

When in doubt do without, that is remove the new hard drive cable and power, remove the DVD drive and try loading booting the XP from just this CD device. Enter the BIOS and check if the system sees the device. If it's not found in the BIOS then you'll never boot anything. Address it as the Primary device on the cable (I don't use CS) and see if the BIOS sees it.
If you get CD device seen in the BIOS then try to boot the CD in it. If it boots then power off and connect up your 40gb drive (optioned as Primary) on the other cable. Now power on as check the BIOS for the drive and the DVD device. If both are seen then boot the cd and try to load XP. After it's up and running install the other CD device as a Slave on one of the cables.

SOURCE: ow to install Windows 7 again over administrator rights blocking everything?

Try booting up your laptop with the Windows 7 installation CD to install Windows 7 again.
If you cannot get the laptop to boot up with the Windows Cd then go into the BIOS setting and make the CD drive the first boot device and the hard drive the 2nd boot device.

SOURCE: Tried to boot from USD, CD/DVD Drive but failed. Still showing No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

To boot up from the DVD drive go into the BIOS setting - boot device order and move the DVD as the first boot device and the hard disk as the 2nd boot device.
If you want to boot up with the USB then move the USB as the first device. If the USB is not listed as a boot device then it is not possible to boot up with an USB device.

SOURCE: need to update bios toshiba satellite c660,using ubuntu live dvd, will not boot hard drive, all normal recovery options used up

Hi There,
There are currently no easy ways to update a bios through linux at all - including live cd's. Your best bet is to make a bios update USB stick (or floppy depending on the age of the computer)
Here's a link to those instructions:
http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-boot-usb-stick.htm
Alternatively, speaking from my own experience with a similar situation, you can take the hard drive out, use it in place of the usb stick, boot from it, update your bios, and go from there.

Testimonial: "Matt, exactly what I have been searching for, I am well advanced in years so will take me a while to configure this, I found the update OK but was a problem choosing the utility. WELL DONE & MANY THANKS Jim"

Windows 7 hangs on start up

Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

No date option means the drive is not being monitored for restore. Right click My Computer > Properties and enable.

How do I rest my ASUS LAPTOP if I do not remember the password

Which Password? Bios Password? Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcome Screen User Logon Password?

Which Operating System? Windows XP? Windows Vista? Windows 7?

OK, if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightenedsecurity on it so you've got to have a password reset disk which 99% of thepeople who own laptops with windows 7 fail to do. It should be one of thefirst things you do when you buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced withreinstalling the Operating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator (hopefullyyou didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once the desktopappears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

I want to remove a ASUS Eeepc 4g bios password which i forgot please guide me thanks.

http://www.unlockbiosrecovery.com/Unlock_ASUS_Bios.php can calculate a bios master password for your ASUS notebook for $20 and they guarantee it to work. The bios master password will clear the currently set bios password, giving you full access to bios setup. I repair laptops and I use them when I get a laptop with an unknown bios password or unknown hard drive password and they have always worked for me.
