There is not a fire danger, but you could have smoke back up into the home. It is 8 inches for a reason and making it smaller could give you vent issues that back smoke into your house.

Thank you. We decided to go ahead and buy 8 inch pipe to be on the safe side and just got back from Lowe’s, lol.

That's the best choice. Fire venting is something that needs to be done right

SOURCE: Stove is smoking bad!

Anderson,

You have a fuel leak if you can see the smoke. Stop using the unit until you find the leak. It may be at the back of the fuel sump. If so, you will need to take the unit apart to get to the fitting. Look also around the top of the sump and around the igniter. If you have a leaking sump valve you may be flooding the unit. Either way fix what going on before you use the unit again.

Keep us posted with what you find.

SOURCE: Can I reduce hose size from 1- 1/4 to a 5/8 garden

Hi,
The short answer is no.
You will not get any flow and wreck the pump.
Go to a Home Depot, Lowe's or Plumbing Supply House and get a 100' roll of black Poly Pipe and roll that out over the ground. The check also has to be at the end of the pipe and the pipe shoud slop away from the pump if possible. This will make it much easier to prime the pump. Air will cause the pump to lose it's prime so you want to get all of th air possible out of the pipe before starting the pump.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Installing stove pipes for wood burning stove

Look up SUPER VENT STOVE PIPE online. Lowes, menards, and home depot carry it I believe, as well as chimney supply stores. There are diagrams available to help you figure out what is needed based on where you plan on running it.

The double wall stainless chimneys are nice to work with, install relatively easy, and usually satisfy most building codes, but double check based on where you live. You need double wall insulated pipe at your first structure pass through all the way out the roof. Black stove pipe goes from the woodstove to the bottom of the stainless steel chimney. There are mounts, adapters, etc all available to build whatever you need.

A couple recommendations though:
1. Keep the chimney as straight as possible. This will aid in cleaning and air flow.
2. If possible, put the chimney inside the house versus outside. You will have less creosote buildup because it stays warmer. You'll have better draft when starting a fire, and you get the benefit of the heat coming off it to provide more warmth in your home.

How do I measure stove pipe?

The accepted technique for measuring stove pipe is by the inside diameter. Simply because the outside diameter of double and triple wall pipe are much larger by comparison to the inside diameter. There's no standard for outside measurement that would transfer in a logical manner.

Poor draft on savannah woodstove

Drolets are a real pain at times. Don't buy their pellet stove. Check your stove pipe to insure its clean and not blocked. This includes spark arrestor. Is you stove cap 2' higher than anything 10' away from pipe? Refer to install manual. If you are not getting an y back draft issues with smoke inside house you may need to add on a section of trip wall pipe at the top.

Woodstove smokes into the house

I've never used a ceramic chimney, or seen one for that matter. I know that the dual walled vent pipe works better when warn/hot. Can't explain it real well but the inner pipe gets hot while venting the heat and smoke. And between the inner and outer wall is cooler air, which is drawn down towards the wood burner. Creates a suction by the exhaust out of the center pipe. Mine smokes up the house when I leave the doors open and when it's a low flame inside. I'm sure you've checked on the manufacturers' specs for venting but, if you don't already know, look into the thermal dynamics of a dual walled vent pipe. And also a ceramic as you have. Has to be something with your stove install or vent pipe. Hope this couch advise helps!

My napolean woodstove has smoke coming from the ash box when I start a fire.It seems to come out of the fresh air damper slider. After the fire is well started it goes away. What could be causing this....

That is usually caused by lack of draft. You may have a partial blockage in your vent pipe or somewhere going to it. Once the heat builds up the draft increases and the smoke is exhausted. Good luck...Lee

I just got a Whitfield Quest pellet stove from a friend. Do I need a fresh air pipe if I use it in my house/ basement? Also where can I get a repair/owners manual. Thanks Kurt Willem

Some people plump in fresh air but you can also punch out the fresh air in take out on the back of the stove and recirculate the air within your home.I would think twice about installing it in your basement . Basements have a tenancy to create a negative pressure, which means that it can become very difficult to create and up draft through the chimney , which causes the smoke to seep out of the stove into your home. The only way I have found to over come this is to run a torch in the stove for 5 mins before starting a fire, this creates an up draft which eliminates the problem.

What do you need to do to put a woopellet stove pipe thru wall

I'm confused by your question. If you are asking what is involved in installing a pellet stove well it varies greatly from model to model. Generally speaking, most pellet stoves will horizontally terminate behind the stove itself as opposed to running thru the roof like a woodstove does. Pellet stoves require the use of electricity for numerous functions, one of which is power venting thru this rear terminated pipe. As far as clearances to combustables, you will find that pellet stoves are very forgiving in that department, with minimal clearances required. Once again all stoves are different and they all are rated indepentently so my best advice to you is find a quality pellet stove dealer and go in and see them. They will be more than happy to answer your questions. Avoid the big box stores as they have pellet stoves at a good price but offer NO service or installation and believe me, I am in the business, you will need professional service at some point during the life of your stove so don't save a couple bucks by going cheap. You will be happier for it down the road. Good luck.
