T24951899-cobra_7750_platinum_freezes_reset might have hints on what to do with the 7700 when stuck.
SOURCE: The Screen shows "welcome. Powering up....." and is stuck
Direct TV has been working on numerous software issues. Some patches have been downloaded for TiVo that in some cases have caused problems. In your case, it is more possibly an indication that the hard drive is not running and you have a possible hardware failure. When you rebooted and became stuck on the "welcome, powering up screen", it could be an indication of a software glitch or a hard drive failure. I would go with a hard drive failure. Since this is a Hughes Receiver like mine and you own it, you could try a drive swap with another TiVo drive out of a like receiver. If one is not available, you may have to purchase one. Pre-configured and initialized drives are available from www.weaknees.com. I have no interest in them, but that is where I buy Tivo pre-configured Hard Drives from. You can get replacement or upgrade Maxtor Drives preconfigured from them for this specific brand and model of TiVo DVR. A drive swap would be cheaper troubleshooting. There is also a possibility of a problem with the built-in IDE controller or the power supply on your receiver which can't be determined until you do swap out with a Known Good Drive to eliminate a hard drive problem. If you are able to swap it out and If the good drive works, then your old one has corrupted data and would need to be re-initialiaed and reloaded. If it is an older smaller (35 hour) drive, you would be better off with a new replacment since the loading is a somewhat lengthy process and must be done on a computer running the Linux Operating System.

the same thing happened to me. Put it in my pocket with the case over it (was in an area with a terrestrial repeater). Went for a run, quit working about 20 minutes later. Just thought it was the battery going dead since I hadn't charged it in a while. Tried to charge it, restart it, everything. It won't turn on at all! Won't even take a charge. What's the deal? It was not wet or anything.
SOURCE: Black screen after startup
You could have a faulty inverter or a CCFL lamp, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

SOURCE: my dvd player rdr-hxd860 seems to be frozen on 'welcome'
I've had the same problem. I've actually unplugged the unit and it's been unplugged for probably about two weeks. When I reconnected the power this morning the problem persisted where the DVD Recorder was stuck on the Welcome Screen. As a last ditch effort I pressed and held the power button for 10 to 15 seconds until the word "Welcome" dissapeard of the screen and back on. This seems to have reset the unit. I know I should have tried this a long time ago. So much for reading the instruction manual! I'm just glad it's working again!
