Phone rings, grab handset, nothing there, grab another handset and answer and I can sometimes catch the call. It often says line in use sometimes, often, Welcome, please wait driving me nuts running from phone to phone and often missing the call.

Same thing was happening to my phone...Welcome! Please wait... After at least 40 hours of charging I was getting a little fed up. I picked up the handset, took a ball point pen and pushed the "activation" area on the bottom the phone...heard a click...now it is working. I don't think the tiny pin that comes with the phone activates the phone properly.

You need to reset the main base unit. Unplug the power from the back of the base. While the power is disconnected, press and hold the delete key while reconnecting the power. Wait for a long beep tone. When the display shows 88 or P, press play button one time. If you have a phone without an answering machine, disconnect the power from the back of the base, press and hold find hs button while reconnecting power.

When you received your phone, there is a black button on the bottom of the phone with a note to "press here before use." You will notice that between the phone and the button there is a piece of cardboard to prevent the phone from being activated during shipment. Remove the cardboard and insert the black pin all the way into the small hole in the base of the handset. Tthis will activate your phone. Charge the phone for a full 24 hours after inserting the black button and activating the phone. The phone does not charge at all until the black button is completely inserted into the base of the phone.

It's even simpler than previously solved; The system administrator can correct this for you in a simple programming change. In the form Multiline set key assignment change the ring type from "No Ring" to "Ring" that's it, done! (I hope you enjoy the digs).
