an open fireplace is not going to heat your house only 5 feet in front of the fire place. 75% of the heat goes out your chimney and burns the wood very fast. sorry to say but if you are looking for heat you installed the wrong unit!

SOURCE: I have a Napoleon GD

First, have you changed ALL of the batteries for the remote control? Not just the ones in the hand held remote.

If that is the case, you'll find a black box down in the lower louvered control compartment. That box is wired to the the control valve terminals. You will not be able to remove it from the fireplace, but there should be enough wiring to allow you to move it towards you.

Depending on who manufactured the remote, in most cases, if you turn the box over and look at the bottom, you can access the batteries (usually 4-AA Alkaline batteries) by sliding the cover back were indicated. If your model is a Skytech Remote, you may have to remove the front cover plate to slide the bottom off. Other manufacturers may have a slide out drawer. Simply push on the face of the door and it will pop out. In either case, be sure to look for any corrosion that the old batteries may have caused and clean it out. Also, note which way the batteries are facing, as you want to install the new ones the exact same way. Failure to do that, will cause the remote receiver not to work.

On the front of the receiver box, there should be a 2 or 3 position slide switch. All the way to the left is the OFF . The Middle Position is REMOTE and the Right position is ON. The ON position is a manual override that will light the burners, if the batteries are dead or the remote has failed.

Once you've replaced the batteries, be sure the slide switch is in the Remote position. If not, the hand held won't work.

If all of this fails, please contact me through the Comments Section and provide me with who the manufacturer is and the model number of the remote control unit.

Hope this helps you resolve the problem.

I get my <a href="http://ggfireplaces.ca/">gas fireplace</a> supplies from amazon because they literally have everything. eBay is a great place too. I know people to take apart junk cars and just sell the parts on eBay. They make good money.

Contact Napoleon at 1-(800) 461-5581 and ask for a AUTHORIZED servicing distributor in your area. You can also go to www.napoleon.com, put in your zip code, and it will tell you who is and isn't an authorized SERVICING DISTRIBUTOR for your fireplace. I hope this helps.

Its to hot

Are the flames more than a couple of inches high? Do they have a lot of yellow coloring to them? Please be sure that the orifice for the fireplace is converted to the proper gas type. A common mistake is to have a natural gas orifice in a LP fireplace. The flames are way too high and the heat is very intense and this creates a very unsafe fire hazard situation. You may want to have a qualified technician come out and examine the fireplace for you.

Napoleon Fireplace won't fire

I would suggest calling Napoleon at 1-(800) 461-5581 and find an AUTHORIZED SERVICING DEALER in your area to diagnose the problem. You can also go to www.napoleon.com, put in your zip code, and it will pull up who is and isn't an authorized dealer in your area.
The company I work for has been in the fireplace business for over 35 years. Napoleon is one of the brands that we have access to. The BGD36CFG is not a simple unit to diagnose. If you can not find a servicing dealer in your area I would call a licensed HVAC but always default to calling Napoleon first. There is no telling why the fireplace will not ignite. Below is the
