try to replace the cord you are using and then try to run it again. If it is work then the problem is the cord othewise the plug or the hard drive itself has a compatibility problem.

It sounds like you might have a problem with the power supply.
I have seen MANY external hard drives with failing power supplies. Take it to the store you purchased it from for a check up, it should still be under warrantee if its only 3 months old.

Okay, so it should be picking up with that machine. First try re-seating all cables (power and USB both sides) and also try plugging it into a different USB port. Be patient and give it a few minutes to find it. Let me know whether or not that works.
