Pixma 850 -- "in use/memory" light clicks and flashes. Followed steps to purge memory -- there was nothing there. Also does not register as being connected to computer when USB is connected.

I had this problem for a MacBook Pro. Here are the steps that fixed it for me:
1) Open Printer

they will be air in the gas line , and the pilot injector being so small it will take ages for gas to come through , you need to purge the gas line undo a union or nut or pilot suppy to purge the line of air test joints after with soapy water .

6A00 means the purge unit is not cycling properly. If the printhead can come out of the right corner, you check there for paper scraps. If it's stuck on the right with this error you will need a shop to take apart and see if you need a new purge assembly. The part cost is only around $20.00

your printer has reached to its printing limit. Its printer has a maximum of printing point it is registered in the printer memory. When it reach to its limit it will stop. To solve this problem you need to use CSS Utility Software so that you can make the printer reset then you can print again. You can download for just type CSSutility software in google or yahoo. then download.

In order to print from PC you should choose COPY function. To check the connection between PC and your printer perform these steps:

• Right click on printer driver name (Canon PIXMA MX 850 in this case)
• Choose Properties
• Click on Maintenance tab
• Click View Printer Status: the status should ONLINE in order to print or scan

If still Offline,please recheck USB cable,reinstal it,or compare with another cable.

You probably need a new printhead, but that problem cann also be caused by the purge or cleaning station not working properly. If you do a cleaning cycle with no carts. and the little pads in the printhead come back with no ink on them then the purge is working and you need a new printhead.

The machine can print a list of documents stored in memory (the memory list) showing the
transaction number (TX/RX NO.), transaction mode, recipient, number of pages, date, and
transmission time of each document. When printing or deleting documents in memory, specify a
document by its transaction number.
1 Press the FAX button, then press the Menu button.
2 Press the [ or ] button to select MEMORY REFERENCE.
3 Press the OK button two times.
The memory list is printed.

I just noticed that I had the telephone cable connected to the "Telephone" port on the back of the Fax/Printer. When I switched it to the "Line" port, suddenly the clicking stopped and the Memory/In Use light went off. Now we will see if I can Fax something. Hope this works for you too!
