SOURCE: Compaq Presario v2000 ALTEC LANSING speakers not working

Go to "Start", "Control Panel", Administrative Tools, Computer Management, click on "Device Manager" on the left hand side and look on the right hand side. See if you have a yellow exclamation next to the "Sounds, Video and Game Controllers". If yes, double-click on the line with the exclamation and then click on the driver tab at the top. Click update driver and when it asks if you would like to to check the internet for updated drivers, tell it yes, this time only and continue. After this process, it should either download and install a new driver for your sound card or install the one that was shipped with your computer. If this does not work, please let me know and we will check the next possible problem.

Please remember to rate this solution.

SOURCE: Altec Lansing ada745 fuse

Yes, it's a 1A 250V glass fuse, 0.75" (1.9cm) long. The only other number on the fuse is "239", if that means anything. You take it out by putting a flat screwdriver in the slot on the fuse holder cap, turn counter-clockwise, and pull out once it releases.

SOURCE: What's the volt & amps of Altec Lansing AVS300 2.1 speaker system

Your adapter is Part No. AVX300-A6859, Model No. 9701-00748-IUND.
Or You could get a universal that is rated for output of 18volt DC, 650ma, Center Positive.
I have used a 15volt DC, 900 ma with no problem, but I never run the volume high.

SOURCE: output board for Altec Lansing ADA995

I've managed to fix the amp in the ADA995 when I blew the rear channel amp. There is a design fault with the voltage regulator that causes it to run very hot, which frys the plastic housing glued near it, which corrodes the circuit board trace.

Getting the sub/amp apart is a *****. But doable. You need to not only remove the screws in the back under the flat grills, but ALSO 3 screws behind the top speaker that also hold the amp in place. And getting the power supply out is another rather difficult procedure, which is needed if you want to run the amp on the bench to troubleshoot.

The amp chips are available, though no NTE equivalent, and replaceable.

Left side no sound

Check the device with another pair of headphones if you have them.
Make sure your balance control is in the middle.
Make sure the plug is all the way in.
Wiggle the cord to try to find an open in the wire.

If you've checked all and there is still no sound on the left, I would say an open in the wire somewhere is the culprit. If they aren't old, perhaps you could contact Altec Lansing for a warranty repair or replacement? You may be pleasantly surprised at their customer service, if you're nice, and patient.

If you are listening through headphones that are plugged in to the Altec system, then your problem is the amplifier is bad. Can't help you online with that. Sorry!
