I have a Toro TimeMaster mower. It will start but will not stay running. Could a bad kill switch cause this?

I have replaced the spark plug, fuel filter, and fuel lines. I have also cleaned the carburetor. I have spark and seem to be getting at least enough fuel to start the engine but it will not stay running

If you spray staring fluid into the intake and it stays running you have a bad carburetor

    Can you people not read

  • john h Jun 12, 2019

yeah we can read and 95% of people think spraying carb cleaner is cleaning their carb and the limited symptoms you have given point to fuel delivery if off kill or safety switch failed wouldnt start at all so read an instruction sheet for rebuilding or replacing carb

You obviously can't read cause I asked a yes or no question

The kill switch can't be the problem.

If it does slowly, its fuel related. (Clogged cap vent most likely cause if it runs ok for several minutes.)

If it dies abruptly, its electrical related. Most likely cause is coil that opens when it gets hot.

Take out the float and sit it in a container of fuel for 10 minutes and if it floats it's ok but if it sinks that's the problem

52 toro Z Master 2000 series won't start

There could be a few different reasons why your Toro Z Master 2000 series lawn mower won't start. Here are some things to check:
  1. Fuel: Make sure that the gas tank is full and that the fuel is fresh. If the fuel is stale or contaminated, it may not be able to properly power the engine.
  2. Spark plug: Check the spark plug to make sure it is clean and in good condition. A dirty or faulty spark plug can prevent the engine from starting.
  3. Air filter: A dirty air filter can restrict the flow of air to the engine, causing it to run poorly or not start at all. Check the air filter and clean or replace it if necessary.
  4. Battery: If the battery is dead or not fully charged, the engine may not start. Charge the battery or replace it if necessary.
  5. Ignition switch: Make sure the ignition switch is in the "on" position and that the safety switch is engaged.
If you have checked all of these things and the lawn mower still won't start, it may be a more serious issue that requires professional repair.

My Toro TimeMaster 30 in. Self Propelled Mower with Briggs & Stratton Engine hasn't been started in 3 months and won't start. Mr Need Help

Raymond. clean the spark plug and be sure the gap is .030 check to see if it has spark. if so pour a little gas in the carburetor, if it starts for a few seconds and dies. you have a fuel problem. be sure the fuel lines are good as well as fuel filter if equipped. you may even have to take the carburetor off and clean it real good.

Model 20199 used once and will not restart.

Did you take the spark plug out and touch it to a bolt head while pulling the cord? if you did you should see a small spark jump between the plug center electrode and the ground electrode. if you do not see a spark you either have a short in the plug wire or the coil is faulty.

Toro self-propelled mower will not start. I thik it is the kill switch. What can I do now? Can I bypass?

Yes you can just unhook the wire and see if you have spark then, only thing is if it is the kill switch then you will have to replace it or you won't be able to shut your mower off unless you choke it but that will eventually wash the oil from cylinder causing premature cylinder wear, hope this helps you

Stalled out does not seem to get spark

First, you must find out if your getting spark or not. Remove plug, and ground it to the motor and pull cord, see if your getting spark. If you are, then your problem is your not getting fuel. If your not getting spark there are a couple of things that can cause this. !st, defective spark plug, Second, cable from control handle to engine may have stretched and is not releasing the kill switch. Disconnect the kill switch wire and check to see if you have spark, if you have spark, replace engine control cable. If with kill switch wire disconnected you still have no spark, you would have a defective magnito coil, which is rare, but does happen. This engine control cable kills the spark when you release the handle and also is the engine brake, It serves two functions.

Toro mower recycler 22 inch will not start has spark to plug and gas is new and pull assembly is good

Is the plug actually sparking? To test this, first, unscrew the plug from the engine...then, with the wire attached to the plug, and with it laying on the deck, pull the engine over with the rope starter. If it doesn't spark, the plug needs to be replaced. The other possibility is that the kill switch is bad.

Toro super recycler mower will not stay running, has fuel and oil and air filter was just replaced

Try replacing the fuel and spark plug. Gas may be bad. Get some fresh from the station not from the can sitting in the garage.
Drain the fuel system and put the fresh gas in.
