Turn off, remove print wheel, turn on, turn off, reinstall print wheel, turn on. Make sure PROPORTIONAL SPACING is not selected.

Either the print solenoid is gummy or the plastic cap on the plunger is broken. They are available but a little tricky to install.
Yes it is worth fixing.

SOURCE: print head moves left and stays horrible noise

The problem is either something is interfering with the carrier movement OR the carrier homing sensor is broken/defective. First, turn off the power and manually move the carrier to the right side frame, check for foreign objects in the machine (pens, pushpins, paper clips etc.). Put some oil (10 weight) on a cloth and clean the chrome shaft that the carrier travels on.(by the rubber cogged belt). This is a common problem. If the sensor itself is the problem, take to a repair shop.(not common)

Wheelwriter 6 Won't Type

It is probably the print solenoid that has a broken cap. I have seen a few advertisers that sell the repair kit with instructions. It is fairly simple to repair.
