There will always be some residual water left in the outer tub after draining. This is normal for most washers. Purchase a container of Oxy-clean and cycle the washer a few times using hot water settings with a half-cup of Oxy-clean added to each cycle. This will help remove any organic matter left behind that might be causing odors.
pump is probably clogged not allowing all water to drain out. Should never see water in the tub at the end of a cycle. About once a month you should run your washer through a cycle with hot water and bleach. Doing that should keep the moldy smell down.
If you take a bit of tilex mold/mildew spray and a rag, you should be able to remove it all. Also , look down at the bottom of the front "gutter" just in front of the tub. There is a series of drain holes and clothes lint can build up a bit in here. take a towel and wipe the holes really clean . This will help keep the water draining out of the front and keep the moldy smell to a minimum. One last thing, I've found with my front loader, that if I keep my wash loads to a medium full size instead of completely jammed full load size, the drain/mold issue is almost non-existent. Hope this clean it all up for you!
The Maytag MAH300AWW was the first generation front load washer. Your MAH5500BWW is a much newer version and has a boot drain and door venting to minimize the mold. Just be sure your drain (bottom center of the boot) is clear. Use a solution of 1/2 cup of Granular Dishwashing Detergant and 1 cup of Chlorine Bleach added directly into the tub. Run the machine through a hot was cycle (with NO clothes inside) every few months and this will reduce or eliminate the mold.
Front loaders are known for building up mold and the smell.
It’s caused by using liquid detergent which is made from animal fat. Use
powder. And use the minimum amount.
It’s caused by using fabric softener. Dilute it50/50 with water.
It’s caused by the water remaining in the tub between washes. Leave the door
open to allow it to dry. .
Pull the rubber door seal back and clean the mold off . Affresh is recommended by some manufacturers. You run it through
a wash cycle with it.
Towel mildew odor is transferred from the washer to towels and clothes. The washer must be cleaned first. After cleaning the washer and towels washing habits must change to stop mold smell from returning.
Washing machine mold / mildew is caused by:
#1 cause is overuse of detergents. Detergent companies are notorious for instructing to use too much detergent. Especially with soft water or when using liquid detergent no more than 1 tbsp of any detergent should be used.
#2 most common cause is using fabric softener because it's dispensed in the rinse cycle and will coat the inside of the outer tub with residue that is a food source for mold to grow.
#3 using only cold water for washing is fine but makes preventative maintenance very important. A weekly hot soak will dissolve odor-causing residue from inside your washer.
#4 not using the washer. If the clothes washer isn't used very often maintenance is especially important. If leaving for a vacation it's a good idea to clean your washer. Do a search to "remove washer odor" to read just how big the problem is. There are all natural washer cleaners that will also remove mildew odor from towels and clothing after the washer has been cleaned.
the washer has a low level of water in it at all times. it will never completely drain out unless you pump it. this is one of the reasons there is such a smell with these washers, i use vinegar in rinse cycle and i use bleach once sometimes twice a month to keep mold and mildew smell away.
It is is normal for the Neptune to have water left in the inner tub after the wash finishes! I used to have a Neptune and I sold them too!! I had them change that drain under warranty when it was new and it never stopped the smell or the mold! After the third repair I threw it in the trash and bought a Speed Queen Commercial grade washer and thats the last one I will ever by! 8 loads a week for 25 years!!!!!!!
**************************************************************** The moldy oder problem is in every Maytag Neptune made! The Neptune comes new with water in it from the test run! All
the water never gets totally discharged. This is one reason why
everyone complains about the moldy, musky or even stinky smell of the
Neptune! Every day I have people here asking what too do about the
moldy wet smell! THIS IS SERIOUS!!!!!
I do tell them to run the washer
once a week without clothes and with hot water and 1/4 cup of bleach.
And then make suer to do only white clothes directly after wards as not
to get a drop of beach water on a colored article of clothing! Then leave the door open after every load when not in use! That's Maytag!!!!!!!! GOOD THING WHIRLPOOL JUST BOUGHT THEM OUT LAST YEAR! Perhaps they will make some good changes!!
Hope this helps and makes you feel a little better as to some water sounds! HOW OLD IS THE WASHER??????
Below I referred you to a great service nation wide!
If none of these tasks remedy the heat problem then here is a good company that's found nation wide. A&E Factory Service A&E has schedulers available to take appointments 24/7 And they do warranty work too, for most manufactures! 1(800) 905-9505
You will be fine Bless You ngafm1 PLEASE GIVE ME A GOOD RATING BEFORE YOU SIGN OF
there is always some water left inside the machine and that is probably what you are hearing
are you using liquid detergent?
if so this is almost certainly the cause of the smell. liquid detergent leaves a nasty slime inside thge machine and smells like drains.
put on a boil wash with no clothes and revert to using powder detergent
