Maybe it's overheated then. Make sure your DVD player isn't on a carpet or something..

The ps3 will freeze up when playing a game and wont read disks

If your PS3 is freezing up then this happens in much the same way as the 3 red lights on the Xbox 360.

The GPU and the CPU heat up and you need to stop the heat to fix it.

You can send it in and pay $130 to get it fixed or you can use the recommended PS3 Repair guide that will have it fixed for you in under an hour!

Also sounds like you need to re-set the laser for the drive.

DVD freezes when playing on a Sony SLV D300P DVD/VCR

That particular unit is very sensitive to scratched or dirty disks. Remove the disk and make sure there are no finger prints, peanut butter & jelly, or popcorn butter stains on the back side. If there is, gently wash the disk under warm water with a DROP of mild dish detergent, being careful not to scratch the surface. Rinse the disk well and dry with a soft, lint free cloth (like an old cotton t-shirt) again being careful to avoid scratching the disk. Replace the disk and play.

If the disk is scratched, there is little hope of fixing the scratch so the unit can read it.....

My Toshiba SD-2715 dvd player periodically stops playing and turns off. This usually occurs after 1 hour of play. This has happened with multiple disks, and I have tried cleaning them with no improvement....

Try cleaning the lens, also the inside of the player in and around the disk tray is probably full of dirt, dust etc, carefully try cleanig all that out, you may need to disassemble a bit to get at everything

When playing DVD no sound but VCD sound OK.

dvd are up to 6 times the density of a cd there making the laser eye read much closer rings on the disks. so in other words its having a hard time reading dvd. the only thing you can do is take a cotton swap dipped in alcohol and open the tray look with a flashlight for a small optical eye in exact center of dvd player and rub lightly on it to remove dust build up or spray some canned air into the dvd youll hit it. try it again and if no sound again the computer cant keep up with the dvd or vise versa.
