The engine symbol is a warning to the driver that there is a problem with the OBD2 - system ! On board diagnostic's is a computer controlled emission watch dog so to speak . When ever the computer think's the vehicle is polluting more then the EPA allows the check engine light comes on so the driver will take it to the dealer or some other repair shop . No outside temperature just shows the temperature outside the car the snowflake symbol will not show up until it is cold enough outside it has 2 stages yellow is an initial warning of cold temperatures when it gets to freezing the symbol will turn red.
The outside temp warning is not connected to anything mechanical only the engine temerature gauge is so dont worry it will not affect the running of the car but is just there as a warning of falling temperatures outside.

It sounds like you may have a problem with the charging system not the actual battery.
If the warning lamp on the dash is red and showing a small battery symbol then this is the indicator to tell you there is something wrong with the charging system.
Get this checked out.
Well I can tell you the battery symbol is a warning that there is an issue with the charging system, most likely a faulty altenator. As far as the other, I'm not a mazda expert, so I'd have to say look in the owner's manual, but that's a wierd one, I'm curious to know what that means, too.
