Killed by lightning, have power, no picture...

My plasma TV and Cable box were killed by lightning last night. They were hooked up to a surge protector but I did not have surge protection on the cable going to the box. The surge was carried through to the TV by the HDMI cable from the cable box.. What should I do to get my TV fixed? I have a 1 yr warranty on the TV but i know it doesn't cover lightning, I have homeowners insurance which might cover it but its a $500 deductable. The TV powers on but no picture, not even menus or volume slider etc.. Any suggestions as to what to do now? Can it be repaired for less than $500, or should I go through my insurance company? I don't think its the screen, it must be a board or diode inside. The screen powers on and lights up but doesn't display anything but black... the surge went through the HDMI cable... I checked the box on another tv and its DOA...

The warranty does not cover lightning, check if your insurance covers it.
A lightning strike on such panel ( HDMI ) is very difficult to repair and if not impossible. The HDMI connector is hooked to the ground of the TV set so everything could be damaged.
My advice is not to repair.

After a lightening storm, my power surge strip got hit and damaged everything that was attached to it (i.e. the internet modem, blu-ray player, and Samsung TV). Our TV only has a blue screen. Help

Yep, power spikes kill. Power spikes kill all. Power spikes kill all forever. Replace all and get a new surge protector that costs at least $99. If you never need it it is called insurance. I am in FL the capitol of lightning. High priced surge protectors are cheeeeep when lightning is there.

We have a 19'' Magnavox T.V. its about 4 yrs old and it was working great up until yesterday. Went to turn it on and nothing, no sound, picture nothing! There was a bad storm the night before last and we...

well 4 year Tv's are just that now and unless its Digital it may not be worth the money to repair. Lightning spikes have killed off the ppwer supply box inside. The cost of replacement is $100-$150 ( if you can get one for this model) + 2 hrs minimum fitting at $90 hour. + your transport of this to a repairer. So it may be time to see that your next and new TV is connected to an anti spike power board and when not in use or a storm is imminent unplug it anyway

Screen froze during lightning storm. no picture now. When powering on screen lights and then dims - no picture, no sound

You might have had a power surge.Try unplugging your TV for 5 minutes and plugging it back in. If you cannot get a picture from any device such as a DVD player and cable then your TV needs serviced call a repair man. Good Luck!

Check the cable line thats attached to the bad set on another set side by side. If the other set still has no channels your going to need to trouble shoot or replace the tuner control bad and the tuner assy.

Lightning hit last night tv won't work cable company says it's in the television

Sorry to here about your problem! This is the time of year I used to get tons and tons of sets, stereos ,games, and vcrs in for repair. On your panasonic it seems that maybe the surge took out the tuner portion or the power supply. It sould cost aprox. 200 bucks or so for a new tuner. Im sure your aware that homeowners will cover almost all repair after the deductable. Good Luck
