I have a JVC mini GR-D770U and have purchased a dv cable. There is nowhere on my computer to plug in the other side....what to do next? Is this a hardware problem and if so, what do I need to get? Thanks!
As I understand it your computer needs either a firewire port or a 4 or 6 pin DV port depending on what type of connector is on the computer end of the DV cable you purchased.

The USB on your camcorder is for downloading still pictures only. If
you want to transfer video to your computer you need to hook up a
firewire cable, which is to the right of the USB connection. Firewire
is also known as 1394 connection.
DV cables can be purchased at any video, computer, or electronics store. Both the av cables as well as the computer cables for capturing to a hard drive.
All you have to do, is make sure your computer has a FireWire card in it, and get a cable and hook it up it will automaticalty reconize the device and open up windows movie maker.
Hi! I have a JVC GR-D770U camcorder and I can not close the tape deck. When I turn it on i says unit in safeguard mode - remove and reattach battery or dc plug but when I do that it just keeps saying the same thing. Can you please help me?
im also havin the same problem... i know you can easily do it if you have a firewire port on your computer but many laptops or computers dont.. lot of places also recommend an 'i link' cable
Product called EasyCap, for about 15 bucks, "can be found online" Has USB plug. Use your cable that has the 3.5 pin that goes out to rca cable, yellow, white and red. EasyCap has the RCA to USB then to computer. Use Windows Movie Maker, comes with XP & Vista, capture while playing from there. I just converted about 20 full tapes from one cannon mini 8 and 15 from a jvc dv onto a TB drive.
just joking althoe macs are crap tho,you need a firewire cable and firewire support on your mac its that easy, you just plug in and the pc does the rest, not sure about mac thoe cause there crap
