LG WM2277HW has error code tE, which is the thermistor. Information on this and other sites indicate I need to check the thermistor to determine if a cable has come loose or a part need to be replaced. My question is that, although quite capable, I am not familiar with washing machines. I feel confident that I can fix the problem, but I want make sure that, as long as I've unplugged my washer, I will not, on my way to the Thermistor, encounter anything I might shock myself on.
To be more specific, unplug unit. Behind the machine are two plastic kick plates, remove to slide off the top. Once off, two top self tap metal screws and one screw behind panel wall, remove. Remove two detergent screws. Lift electrical panel and set on top of machine. Remove four top screws. Bottom drain has one screw in front, take out plastic cover and one screw in back. Take off rubber by opening door. With a screw driver, prey and lift up the brass spring ring and remove. Then the front panel should slide up and out. Be careful because electric wire is still connected, move to the side of unit. You will then be able to find the thermostat. Unplug and replace, you will need to use the same rubber bushing. Took me an hour, I’m not an appliance repair guy.
The only thing I can think of are capacitors but they may not be in the area that needs attention. Here's a pic of some if you aren't famailiar with them. I've highlighted in red the ones that are most likely present.
Thermistor is made up of 2 words thermal (heat) and resistance. so a change in heat, increases or decreases resistance in electric cct. if u put a multimeter on lowest reading ih ohms, u should get a very low resistance, if its ok. if it doesnt move, even when u reverse probs, it's open cct and bust. needs replacing. its like a thermostat. u can put it in hot water and then take another reading and resistance should have gone up if its ok. worth doing as its fascinating to wattch it rise or fall. bit like charging and discharging a capacitor...lol

The tE error or fault code indicates that you have a defective water temperature sensing thermistor. The thermistor cannot be repaired and will have to be replaced.
The TE error or fault code is to indicate a defective water temperature sensing thermistor. The thermistor cannot be repaired and will have to be replaced.
The TE error code indicates a heating error, usually caused by a faulty
thermistor. First, attempt to clear the error by unplugging the power
cord, waiting for 10 seconds, restore the power, and restart the wash
cycle. If the same problem happens again, close water tap, unplug the
washer because the unit may require service.
I had the tE or te error (an L with a line through it) error on my LG front loader and my local appliance store sold me the thermistor for $7. I layed the unit on its side and accessed the thermistor through the bottom. It plugs into the bottom of the tank. Blue and white wires. No screws and 1 tie-wrap. (Leave the rubber grommet in - just pull the thermistor rod out.) Works like a champ!
LG Tromm Washing machine te error. The manual says to call for service. Not much help there. The reason for the error is the thermistor circuit (resistive element that becomes less resistive as it increases in temperature). The thermistor acts as a heat sensor. In many cases, the error occurs because the wireing harness is too tight at the bottom of the drum and one of the wires in this circuit becomes disconnected with all of the movement of the drum (unbalanced load, normal cylcing etc).
1. Unplug the washing machine from the wall. The thermistor circuit is at line voltage (110 in the U.S.) and it will bite! So do this first before proceeding.
2. Move the washer out so you can get access to the back of it.
3. Remove the stainless panel (the one that is not painted, it is large (aprox. 16x18 inches). It is held in place by 4 phillips screws.
4. Locate the thermistor connection block near the bottom of the machine, at the center of the wash drum. It is the small white connector that has two wires running to it. One wire is dark blue, the other is light blue. Insure that neither wire has pulled out of the connector. If either of them have, repair the connector and provide enough extra wire ( aprox. 2") to provide cable relief.
5. If the cable connector and wires are ok, there are other solutions here that recommend either cleaning or replacing the thermistor.
btw...the thermistor can be found easily by tilting the machine on its back. It is mounted to the back of the drum housing. I removed mine after getting a "tE" error and cleaned it and replaced...no problems since!
