I faced this problem once and I cant remember how it got solved my DSC W100 is giving me a black screen in the LCD, I tried to change the view mode but nothing comes out except the indicators of the ISO, Focus etc.
when I take pictures on any of the modes (including video) the picture is pitch black
i tried to change the aperture even to a 30 seconds shatter speed but with no result
i tried to switch it off and on several times i removed the battery and put it again and it is showing a full battery i tried to remove the memory card and put it back again i tried to switch between picture viewing mode and taking a picture mode, recent pictures are black and old ones can be viewed with no problem
it just came back to work properly again! nothing much was done other than placing it on a table to try again later!it just came back to work properly again! nothing much was done other than placing it on a table to try again later!

The LCD screen is black and I can't tace picture. But I can still view my pics. The camera goes thru all the motions like it is taking a picture but it is just coming up black.
This address has the LCD screen for W100 for 49.99 plus 7.99 shipping. http://us.nine.ebid.net/perl/auction.cgi?auction=1223771623-19276-1&mo=auction&from=froogle. I had the same problem with my w100. Just remove the screws that hold the back on. Gently take out the LCD screen and follow the connection to where it connects. Gently pop open the connector clamp, its hinged on the far side. remove the old replace the new snap connector clamp back down. Check that it works then put back and screws back on.
very good poss that camera needs mode dial switch assembly.Especially if unit was subject to liquids near the mode dial .part # 147966811 for silver and 147966821 for black model..First reset camera by pushing reset switch should be around batt compartment and or memory stick area.
You can replace the LCD and the circuit card and it should work fine. Takes about 30 mins and you need some professional Tools, like small needle nose and some screwdrivers.
it just came back to work properly again! nothing much was done other than placing it on a table to try again later!
