Can the Boston BA 7900 be converter to use with TV or DVD Player?

Yes, but so far I can only get the 2 front speakers and subwoofer to work.

You need a wire that converts a headphone-style jack (like the green one with the Boston speakers) into a red and white AV connection (typical CD/DVD, etc. connection). I've had this connector for a long time and I'm guessing it's under $15. You connect the green Boston speaker connection to the converter end (mine connects to the back end of the headphone-jack (which has a hole for the connection) and the red/white AV connectors to your TV.

I'd been trying to solve the problem too for a long time. Only problem is that I can't get all 5 speakers to work because I think the red/white connector doesn't work with all 5 speakers. I have yet to figure out how to make all 5 work, but the system gives great sound anyway. You will have something like a 5.1 system with your computer speakers, the Boston speakers and subwoofers.

One more issue is that if you connect it directly to the TV, you have to manually turn the Boston speakers on and off.

We bought a house that came with a home theater system. We would like to connect a cable tv dvr box to it to be able to watch football games in hd on the big screen with the surround sound. The components...

1. Connect cable to cable HD DVR box, connect video out of cable box to Sony receiver TV video in, connect audio L and R out of cable box to Sony receiver TV audio in and connect TV out of receiver to video in of Panasonic projector 2. Connect Audio and Video out of DVD player respectively to DVD in of receiver. Good Luck :)

Getting the best out of my Sony STR DE-475

Yes, it would downgrade.

Simply run an HDMI cable to the LCD from the DVD player. Now, use the digital audio output of the DVD player to run to the receiver. I know the Sony has an optical input which i recommend over the coaxial input as the optical cable doesnt waste any energy as a medium transferring sound since its only light.

Sony str-dg820. having a problem getting video on tv

Hook up Composite / Component Monitor Out wire from receiver to TV video input because receiver will not change analog input into HDMI
You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.

Getting Surround to work

The easiest way is to hook up your DVD/VCR combo directly to the back of your Sharp LCD TV, then run a component audio output from the TV to the audio input in the back of the receiver. Make sure you hook up your front, center and rear speakers correctly to the receiver, then go through with the speaker calibration steps - per manual, then it should work with no problem. Good luck!

Receiver won't put out sound to LCD Sharp aquos

I have the same problem with my Sharp Lcd and Onkyo 804. I believe one problem is that the TV can not accept dolby digital or dts digital audio signals through HDMI. It will play sound if it receives a PCM signal through HDMI. You can try switching the type of signal on the cable box settings and on the dvd player. I switched to PCM and got sound through the TV and the receiver. The problem is that PCM is usually only a 2 channel signal and Dolby 5.1 will sound better through the surround sound theater system. I have not found an absolute solution to this yet, but I am willing to not get sound through the lousy TV speakers in order to get top notch sound through the Onkyo.

Sony STR DE485 (Audio Video Reciever)

Your problem must be caused by the right channel (rear, front whatever..)side feeding resistor on the power supply.
