Here is the solution. I have this same tv and the same thing happened to it. I spent a lot of time searching on the internet for a fix. I finally came across one. Basically there are two capacitors on the main power board in the tv that go bad. You can tell because the tops of them bulge. I bought new ones on the internet for $6 delivered. I figured it was worth $6 to try this solution that I had found. If it did not work I was only out $6. I am not a professional repairman or anything either. I do know how to take things apart and have done some basic soldering in the past. So I ordered the capacitors specified below and took my tv apart. Just as the instructions said I had two capacitors right next to each other that were bulged. I carefully removed the board from the tv and then got out my soldering iron. I removed the two capacitors after watching some how to videos on youtube. Then I replaced them with the new ones and put everything back together. Turned on the tv and it has been perfect since. That was about 4 months ago. People that tell you that you need a new board are technically correct as this would fix your problem. But this is what is wrong with the board. It really is a $6 fix. These two capacitors just need to be replaced. Below are the exact instructions that I followed. If you have questions you can email me at [email protected]

HERE IS THE FIX:

1. Unplug your power supply cord.
2. Remove back panel on your HD.
3. Look for capacitors that have a bubbled or slightly raised and rounded top. This indicates the capacitors have overheated or leaked and need replaced. The normal look is a flat surface with no raised feature at all. (I had two bad capacitors that were side-by-side and identical: 3300uf 10v. Also, they should be located on the power supply board. My power supply board was in the middle of my 50" plasma.)
4. Go to an electronics store or Radio Shack and see if they carry your capacitor type and size and replace them yourself if you are comfortable with removing the capacitors and soldering new ones to the power supply board. The capacitors will cost you $2.00 each or less.
5. I was not comfortable replacing the capacitors myself so I removed the power supply board by removing the screws and unplugging several wire connections. This was not difficult at all. I then brought the power supply board to a local electronics shop that did repairs on HDTVs and simply asked them to solder the two new capacitors onto the power supply board. They did it for FREE while I waited and it only took about 10 minutes.
6. I replaced the power supply board and back panel of TV and it worked!!!

Some people on this sight suggested replacing the capacitors with some that have higher temperature ratings. Based on that advice, I wanted to replace my two that were bad (3300uf 10v) with two rated at 4700uf 35v, but my electronics guy suggested against it. Instead, I replaced mine with 3300uf 16v, with the only difference from the original parts being the higher voltage (16v instead of 10v). I figure if the problem occurs again, I now know I can get it fixed for less than $5.00. Philips - Magnavox should be ashamed for such poor customer service and not telling people about this simple fix. When I called their customer service support number I was simply directed to a repair place -- two hours away!!!

I was able to fix my 50 inch Magnavox in the same way as Solution #1. The only thing different that I did was to use the same capacitors as original. Hopefully they will last. I couldn't find the 3300uf 16V. Total time of repair, 1 hour. Total cost $12.99, including a soldering iron from Radio Shack.

How do i fix my magnavox tv, it keeps blinking red. it wont let me turn it on. what do i do to solve this problem?

If you remove the back, you might see a couple of electrolytic caps that are bulged on the power supply, that need to be replace, or just replace the power supply itself. There are also two readings, that you can read, the VA voltage and The VS voltage. There will be a label on the inside on the back farme that will tell you what the VS, VA, voltages should read on the output of the power supply.

My Philips Magnavox 50MF231D/37 won't turn on. when i go to turn it on a red light blinks and then you hear to two clicks. The red light just stays blinking until i unplug it then wait 20 secs and replug...

The tv needs the power supply serviced, most likely ( 2) 3300u 10v capacitors. (they can be spotted because they will bulge on top) best to have a pro replace them, however since I am telling you what the problem is try to negotiate a fair price - no more than $150 dollars. you can try to do it yourself but you will need soldering equipment and some level of electronics knowledge. good luck.

Your problem is caused by a power supply issue it sounds like a capacitor is leaking or has vented and will need to be replaced if your comfortable you could check the power board for a can shaped electroletic cap that has vented it will be puffed up on the top the value is printed on the side you can or have someone replace it that should take care of your problem the power board is the one where the AC cord plugs to or leads to

50" Magnavox Plasma TV will not turn on - Red LED blinking 4x

When you have the red light that blinks four times on the 50" Magnavox Plasma Model 50MF231D/37, you should look for the capacitors on the power board in the center of the of the TV. Look for two 3300uf, 10V, 105c capacitors that have a build up of pressure that has caused the top of the capacitor to look rounded instead of the flat top that will be on all of the other capacitors. Changing these two capacitors fixed the problem of the TV not coming on.
I had more trouble finding the capacitors than changing them. I could not find them locally so I went to an on-line electronics supply store where they were $1.65 each and $8.99 to ship.

I can't get my tv to turn on... nothing but blinking red light

Dont know if this will work for you or not, but my brother gave me his because of the same problem. It would power up and a green light would come on, then after 10 -15 seconds it would change to a red blinking light. I plugged a usb cable into the service port on the side and left the other end unplugged. Then plugged the tv back into the power. i took a small screwdriver and ran across the contacts in the end of the usb cable until both the red light and the green lights came on. I did this several times listening fot the clicking noises in the TV. after doing this for approx 20 seconds, i pressed the power button and the TV worked fine. 5 days now and no problems. Only thing I can think is I somehow reset the software and now it is working fine. Hope some of you can figure this out and give it a try. if the TV is just sitting, you have nothing to lose

Magnavox Plasma HDTV Red light

I had a similar problem with my magnavox tv with the blinking light issue. Eventually it just didn't come one anymore. Looking at other forms they said the problem was a bad capacitor number 2074 located on the power supply board. When I opened my tv, I noticed that the capacitor was bulging and burnt up. I bought a new one labeled 2200uf 35v and did some solder to attach the new piece. Put the tv back together and it works like new. No more blinking light. I hope this helps.
