Question about Zebra Z4Mplus Label Printer

1 Answer

I created a new label layout in Filemaker pro to print a 4" x 6" label. When I print this label on the Zebra LP 2844 printer it prints fine. If I try to print it on the Z4MPlus it enlarges the print and does not fit onto the label. Any suggestions on how to fix.

The easiest solution would be to create a new label layout in FileMaker specific for that printer that can be used when printing to that printer which would solve that problem.

The issue with the size being enlarged is most likely with the printer driver and not the FileMaker software so that is where I would look around to see if there is a scaling setting, or some other setting that needs to be corrected in the driver/page setup area for that printer.

I hope I've done a good job answering your question. I am a FileMaker 7 expert (and 8, 9, and 10 as well); if you have any additional questions I will do my best to answer them. If my answer was helpful for you I'd appreciate a 5 thumbs up rating, or a click on the yes this was helpful button. Thank you!

The easiest way to create the new layout is go into layout mode (CTRL+L Windows or Command-L on the Mac) and navigate to the current label that prints good on the other printer. Duplicate the layout (CTRL+D or Command+D on Mac) and then rearrange the data/font sizes to make everything fit the way you want on your label. One thing that I always do when working on a layout is make sure the current printer defined as default is the printer I will be designing the label for and then I go into print setup and make sure all of the settings are the way they will be when the label is to be printed. This makes sure the layout shows the proper guides for the margins of the media when designing it.

because if label lengh is ex. 20mm and you set up label print area as 21mm, it will over the size and it will skip the next one. the print area shoul be less than the label length. please verify software or driver.

Zebra LP 2844 is stalling out on every print.

Maybe the printer is not getting a good calibration on the label. If the status LED is a steady RED when trying to print, then the printer thinks its out of labels. A manual calibrationi could solve that.

1. Turn the printer off
2. press and hold down the FEED key while turning on the printer.
3. keep pressing the key until the status light flashes once, then let go
4. The printer will auto-calibrate for the size of label and then should be ready to use.

Press FEED once after its done and 1 label should feed.

Hope that helps !

Zebra LP 2844 printer will not print anything but the test page

possibly not a real LP2844 but an LP2543, a printer mass produced for and used by UPS. refurbishers change the label and sell as LP2844 because they are almost identical.
if it has an AC-AC adapter, it is an LP2543. LP2844 uses a AC-DC adapter, and all LP2844's have USB ports.

LP 2844 not working with Create-A-Label v3.04

If you are using CAL (Create A Label) you must have a device called a "Dongle" plugged into your parallel (or USB) port. This acts as the activation key for CAL. If there is no dongle then CAL only works in demo mode. That's why printer Icon stays grayed out. The "Dongle" normally plugs directly into the parallel port and one end of the parallel lead plugs into the "Dongle" while the other plugs into your printer.

I would suggest that you download "Zebra Designer" software from the Zebra Website..This will work without any activation.
If you use ZD you must use the correct ZDesigner driver. (Install automatically as part of ZD setup) This driver only works with ZD.

If you need to link to a database then you will have to BUY label software. Zebra Designer Pro, or Nicelabel, or Bartender....etc.

Zebra LP 2844 prints blanks

If the printer is printing nothing but blanks, try another roll of labels.

If the printer is printing blanks in between labels, it probably needs to be gap sensed. You can do this by:
1. turn the printer off.
2. hold the feed button down and then power the printer back on while still holding the feed button down.
3. release the feed button when the light flashes.
4. the printer will then regap itself
5. when the regapping is done, press the feed button once. It will print on the label that it is 'out of dump'
6. the printer should then be ready to go.
