My 80 lb sister broke the handle. It appears that the two pieces mounting this handle are impossible. If I take off the mount on the door that has the screw inside which fits in the handler then I can't remount the handler on the door because the screws are not accessible in this state. Help please. Picture this: Door handler fits over mount holding the screw that holds the door to the handle. I need to attach the handler (screw) it into this mounting hardware which is screwed to the door. I can take it off and attach but never be able to reattach the mounting hardware back on the door WITH the handler on it!!
This handle slides up to take off and down to put it back on. The bottom part came off pretty easy, but the top was tougher. I had to slip a screw driver in to press the tap towards the door to get it to slip up. Once off, tight the screws, especially the one that attaches to the handle (star type head). Re-attaching is the easy part. Put over the mount and slid down. This handle slides up to take off and down to put it back on. The bottom part came off pretty easy, but the top was tougher. Re: Kenmore 106.55526400 door handle needs mounting
Yes the door will need to be partially disassembled to reach the back of the screws. The handle is the lowest price I could find is at Sears Parts Direct CLICK HERE=> http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?pop=flush

There are two handle styles for the Kenmore Ultra Fresh refrigerators available around the time of the model, 106.55539400. On one handle style, you need to remove trim pieces to access the part of the handle where it is attached to the door of the refrigerator. In turn, apply firm pressure on each trim piece and push it away from the handle. (Push the top trim piece up and the bottom one down.) For the other style, the handle locks into shoulder pieces that are attached to the door. Again use firm pressure on the handle; hold it in the middle of the handle. Push the handle up until it clears these shoulders. Then determine the correct screwdriver tip to use to tighten these screws. See page 7 of the manual, https://www.searspartsdirect.com/manual/25o0qstrl6-000582/kenmore-10655539400-side-by-side-refrigerator , for pictures of these handles. On some more recent refrigerators, you will need to use an Allan wrench to tighten set screws to the hardware shoulders on the door. There will be a small opening on either end of the handle for the Allen wrench to be pushed into contact with the screw.
Please add a comment with the model of your refrigerator for specifics about the handle for your unit. I hope this helps.
Yeah, you have to remove the lock. Use an impact drill with the right phillips head to remove the screws. if you try to take them out with a screw driver, you will strip them. Remember...impact drill.
You will probably need to take the MW down and remove the outer case to access the hinge for the door.
just received a new door assembly for my Kenmore microwave and spent
about an hour searching for help with installation to no avail. , but managed to replace it by prying the small
pin out with a flat head screwdriver and removing the door. I reused
the pin (after straightening it), and it works great.
The door handle is secured with the two screws from inside of the door.
In order to access them you have to remove the inner door frame. You
can find how to remove it in the video clip from one of our previous posts.
If you're replacing the handle, then order the choke cover..It's the piece on the inside of the door that covers the handle screws. No matter how carefull you are, it is almost guaranteed to break. If you break it, then you have one, and if not, send it back. DO NOT OPERATE MICRO WITHOUT CHOKE COVER.
Got it. It was the door switch. I wrote that it "could suddenly break, I guess" and that's just what happened. The switch is not in the latch; there are no wires in the door. The switch is mounted on the upper right of the door frame. There's a black plastic paddle that closing the door pushes back. Ours broke off (making it harder to see). I'll order a new part, but for now, I taped a piece of plastic to the door that reaches the broken switch.
By the way, if you are new to dryer repair, as I am, you might not know that the top deck is hinged at the back. You have to pry up the front (there are two rubber restraints) after disconnecting the lint trap shaft. The door switch is easily accessible from the top (at the right). Don't forget to turn off the power.
