Freezer, keeps getting ice on bottom of freezer, it leeks out, ruining tiles flooring. I tried, defrosting and cleaning freezer out, still have the problem
The refrigerator is leaking in front. It is a Top Freezer refrigerator. I have tried cleaning out the freezer and cleaning under neath. The refrigerator is only 4 years old. Sometimes it freezes in the back of the refrigerator, but everything else seems fine. I checked to see if it is the icemaker, but that seems to be OK. I do not want to call a service person if I don't have to, since I have been unemployed for a long time and can not really afford to spend it on an expensive service call. Thank you.

ok i took your advice, and for never dealing with the mechanics of a refridgerator before i think i did a good job of melting the ice. well see what happens the next few days but im confident that this solved the problem

That sounds like a blocked defrost drain,this tip i wrote expalins how to clean a defrost drain on a ref. with the freezer on top...its the exact same process when freezer is on the bottom,only difference is the freezer is on the bottom instead of the top.
the ice is caused from the frozen drain in the back. the cold coil is also frosen / this stopes the air to the fresh food .. so defrost the freezer and ck the heater and defrost termator . . you may also need the main control that has the defrost timer on it . located on the back of frig.. hope this helps . mm
Defrost drain is clogged. This accessable thru the back wall of the freezer. Also depending on your model some also have removable Bottom floors of freezer that also get ice accumulation. When the defrost drain gets clogged water from the defrost cycle has no where to go so it stays and accumulates ice till eventually it leaks into the fresh food section. Clear the drain completly and you will have no more problems.
I can help you diagnose the problems with your GE. Several things can cause these symptoms. All you need is a voltage meter patience and a want to, to repair and do it better than a paid technician. In most cases with the PSS26MSRSS the defrost heater is the cause for this. Look into rear of your freezer and back wall. Is Ice or frost building on rear wall? If yes unplug and prepair to remove contents in freezer compartment. Remove rear panel in freezer and use hair dryer to defrost ice until the defrost heater is visible. BRB , Sea Breeze
Just unplug the frig and open the freezer and let it defrost. Put the frozen items in the frig to keep them cold. Keep the frig closed if possible. You can assist the defrosting by blowing a window fan into the freezer. The room temp will defrost it quickly, or set a blow dryer on LOW and direct toward ice. Careful don't take the chance and turn that dryer on heat. And DO NOT CHIP ICE with a sharp object (patience is free). You may need to physically remove the water as the ice melts. - The source of the ice is probably condensation, or if it happens very quickly, there may be a ice maker leak. Once defrosted replace the frozen items and watch for cause of ice.
I posted this on another problem, but this may help you too. Check to see if there is frost on the back panel of the freezer. If there is try solution below: ................................................................................................ I had a similar problem. The frost in the back is an indication that
your coils are frozen. This could be from food packages falling out of
the freezer drawers in the back and blocking the air circulation vents
or maybe the freezer door was not closed completely and letting
moist/humid air in and freezing the coils. For me it was the first
problem listed.I had to completely empty the freezer and Frig. and take
the back panel off in the freezer. There you will see the coils and
lots of ice! 1. Remove all items from the frig. and freezer and unplug frig. 2. Pull all the freezer drawers out. 3.
On my GE side by side I took the light cover off and removed the bulb.
There you will see two panel screws. Remove the screws. 4. Now pull out the mouldings on each side and you should be able to remove the panel. 5. Take a hair drier and completely defrost all the ice from the coils. Be
sure to keep plenty of towels handy for all the water mess. Remember to
keep an eye on the drain tray in the back of the frig. and use a sponge

Your defrost drain hole is frozen closed.
Remove the back freezer panel and defrost the ice with a hair dryer.
Once the drain is clear poura 1/4 cup bleach in the drain hole.
More likely, the defrost system has failed.
There are three components: Defrost timer, a defrost heater, and a defrost bi-metal.
The timer can be located either in the food compartment, on the rear of the unit, or behind the kickplate. The heater and bi-metal are located behind the freezer rear wall (or freezer floor, depending on design). It's easiest to unplug the fridge overnight, with the freezer door open, to melt all the ice that has developed. PRIOR to doing all this, please ensure that there IS ice forming on the wall of floor of the freezer! Let me know. I hope this helps!
