You either have a CC button on the original remote, which you seem to have found for standard def captions usually white on black, or it is hidden in a menu for settings or preferences. Try your manual or scour your menus. HD does not transmit the codes for standard NTSC CC, so the set must create those itself. You may even find there is a choice of color, font, and size for HD shows--I like yellow with a transparent background as the least obnoxious. -Ken

How can I turn off CC on my SONY 52XBR. I used the Remote control settings and selected off on the cc display, but the cc never turns off. I also used the menu button on the side of the T.V to select

If Closed Captioning is being displayed even though the CC option in the TV menu is set to Off , then it is being produced by another device, such as a cable or satellite set-top box. To remove the Closed Captioning from the TV screen, it must be disabled on the device that is decoding the Closed Captioned signal.
NOTE: Some set-top boxes may automatically display Closed Captioning on the TV screen when the set-top box sound is muted. If this is the case, turn off the Mute function of the set-top box

How to remove closed caption on Sony Bravia TV

Check the menu of set and a box if used--both usually have that feature.

In menu look for closed captions (CC) and turn off--settings may exist for leaving it to only come on if sound is muted.

Do not if using a box for signal overlook that also having the same feature.

How do I get closed caption to turn off on my Sony Bravia even when it says "off" on menu.

What is the input source? Could the captions be on from a set-top box (cable/sat/dvd player)? I know with one satellite box, the only way to enable captions on the second TV (an older set) turned out to be putting the box in single mode and turning on the captions. This meant that both sets got the captions. Thus to turn off the captions for the main TV, you have to turn them off in the satellite dish menu.

Please let me know if this helps.

(I'm assuming that pressing the CC button on the remote hasn't helped and this isn't a case of open captions being provided.)

How do I turn off CC on Sony Bravia

This appears to be an repair issue.
We are experiencing the same problems. No matter what setting we use for the 40EX500, the close captioning does not seem to come on or off.
We have a HD receiver which has a setting to disable or enable. Setting to enable allows CC to be seen on the TV, but it cannot be turned off or on with the CC button on the Sony Remote. Disabling the box, then disables the CC completely on the TV.
I do not know what the issue is, and calling Sony directly is a waste of time, the holding times are unacceptable.

turn off the cable box but leave the tv on,push the menu button for the cable remote while the box is off and that white screen will appear.shut off the CC switch. It was not the tv's fault but it was in the cable box.

I cannot turn off the closed caption feature

First, see if your tv is muted. By default, cc comes on when muting that model of tv. Also, you can press menu and navigate to closed captioning and turn it off that way.

Closed Caption on Sony Bravia

Try a master reset on the TV. With the TV powered on, prss and hold down the up button on the remote (there are 4 buttons grouped together for up down left and right) and while holding down the up button, press the power button on the TV. The unit should power off and then turn back on and ask you to select a language. Let me know if this helps and be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

CC will not turn on....

There are usually several versions of the closed captioning. Cycle through them to see which ones work. Turn one set on...wait a few minutes...if that does not bring up the captioning during normal shows (not commercials)...try the next set.
