When you load the DVD, instead of the content loading, the word "Root" comes up? This means the content is either corrupted, the disc is dirty, or damaged. In other words, the laser is not able to reach and pick up the magnetic information on the disc. Does this happen with another DVD player? Try doing that first. In the meantime, clean the disc. If the disc can't be read by another DVD player, then the disc is at fault. If another DVD player can load the disc with no problem, the original DVD player you used, may have a dirty lens (what the laser shoots out of), or the laser is not moving at all. If this is the case, the DVD player is broken.
Please replace your DVD drive. There is a problem on the motor and reader of the DVD Drive. If your continue using this drive it will damage your disk. Have it replace so that it won't create errors upon using it.
Turned out to be oxidisation on the battery terminal in the remote--scraped it off with point of a penknife to ensure good electrical contact and hey presto!!
