Ink from my deskjet 5650 smears off my glossy postcards.

I'm trying to print onto glossy postcards, but the ink keeps smearing. I thought the deskjet 5650 was good for photos on glossy paper so it would work for glossy postcards. Any ideas.

Hello there jbaerpynes.

You must use HP branded glossy paper in this particular printer as recommended by the manufacturer. Because HP ink is much finer than most other inkjet printers, the ink sometimes does not set in properly on generic papers, especially glossy ones, and can smear right off.

Try new paper and get back to me. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to comment on my post. If I helped you, please give me a positive rating.

Thanks.

Sorry, not the same thing. Think about it. A glossy postcard has been printed on with ink already. Glossy photo paper is specially coated to absorb the ink from your printer.

Printing on a glossy postcard would be like printing a photo on glossy paper, then running it through again to print something else on it. That is just not going to work.

No sure what your doing, but you could purchase clear address labels, print on them and then apply to the postcards. Just a thought.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Why does the ink smear when I print on the back of hp paper

Basically it is a one sided paper like a one way street, mean to be used one side. It is only mean to be used one side..like a one way sponge soaks up the ink from closest side, turnover and it is blocked paper not able to soak up ink on the dull side.

Printing vinyl

Go to advanced settings on the printer control panel, and look for the type of paper. You may also need a special quick drying ink to print, otherwise, it will smear, and if it doesn't smear, it takes forever to dry!

Smearing of printed image in color printing mode

many times this problem is caused by the type of paper being used, especially with photos, try a different paper, or change the type of paper in the print box when you try to print. the amount of toner used is determined by the paper type. if you are printing on glossy paper you might get the smearing if you didn't tell the printer to print on "glossy" Anyway, this is most likely where to problem can be solved. good luck

Ink smears on photo prints- in never dries. This is a new problem,

HP ink is water soluble. It comes off or smears onto a damp finger. So now I have an issue with HP.

Blurry, Ink Smeared pages

If the media (glossy paper) is designed for an ink jet printer you should be fine.

Ink has to be able to be absorbed into the fibers of the page. If you are using paper for a laser color printer, that's your problem.

Samsung CLP-300 dark prints and smears

For starters remember this is not meant to be a PHOTO Printer, I am guessing the Spearing is because Glossy paper does not hold the toner like Regular paper or at least until it is fused. I am a technitiian and i also own this printer.
