Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.
infopgdesign, That's a close call, depending on how bad the housing is broken, there may be lens alignment issues, the adapter ring or the housing body may be cracked, take it in to a shop so they can look it over closely to help you decide if you should send it to Nikon for repair which depending on the severity of the damage will determine the cost. if it's close to what you paid for the lens, save your money and buy a replacement, maybe the VR version of that lens if it wasn't. randy320sgi
the error is the zoom lens is stuck
there is a ring at the base of the camere which gets dirt in it and makes the zoom stick
can be repaired by most camera shops as it only needs about 5 screws removing to clean the ring
do not send it back to kodak because they will rip you off.
