Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01 Less than 1 year old

My camera will turn on and act as if it is going to be operable and then the lens will zoom in and out and then ask to be turned off and then back on again. The lens will not close when turned off. It acts like it is on when turned off. If not shut off when asked to do so, the camera automatically shuts down and the lens is still open. Even when I turn the switch to "off" the lens still stays out.

Same problem with ours, only 7 months old. We returned to the seller under warranty, and they fixed the problem FOC. They stated "lens adjustment" on the repair invoice.
I think these machines are not as sturdy as we are led to believe, and the slightest knock or bump sends them a bit squew wiffy!

My 5 year old panasonic DMC-TZ27 seems to have jammed as it won't switch on!

Try the most basic step first. Please check if the battery is fully charged. If not it is not providing enough juice to the motor that turns the zoom lens. Please charge it fully first and give it a try.
If not, try re-setting the camera. you can find it in the menus.
if not the worst case scenario, the zoom motor is burnt, please take it to the service center for necessary repairs

To purchase a battery for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01 is it easily available or does one need to have a specific serial number of the battery for the said camera

it is just a battery and camera manufacturers use generic batteries
take the old battery out and all you need is a battery the same shape , voltage and composition --ni-cad or metal hydroxide
they would be available at any camera shop or online from e-bay

Lumix DMC-FX01 Buttons not working

Remove the card and battery. Clean the battery contacts inside camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol. Be sure battery is charged. Press all buttons on camera. Insert card and then the battery. See if it works. If you can now get into the setup menu, you can do a reset from the menu.

When I zoom useing my panasonic lumix DMC-FX01 it turns off

Have you had problems when you turn it on and off from scratch before? It sounds like you have a problem with the lense extension. Now if you are lucky, it's just a bit of dirt in there and the best cure (I know, it sounds horrible) is to put the end of a shop-vac over the lense when it's closed and it will probably **** the obstruction out. If you are less lucky, the problem is with the gearing inside and in the middle of the luck-vs-effort range it could just have been bashed, in which case, you can try and push it back into alignment but be careful with it (he says, after he hit his last one with a large lump of wood to put it back).

Good luck :)

Bubbles in the photos

Hope the problem is not with the sensor. First try cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth. If you can't get a microfiber cloth, use a clean cotton cloth. If you can still see some smears on the lens, put two drops of lens cleaning solution on the cloth and wipe carefully.
If you still find these bubbles, take the camera immediately to an authorized service center.

Panasonic lumix dmc-fx01 won't focus

See the post for the same camera: "Buttons stopped working": there is a small 2 position switch connected to the zoom button. In my camera the zoom switch was stuck in one of the extreme positions. You have to put it back in the middle an re-assemble.
