LENS ERROR I brought this Nikon Coolpix L3 a little over a year ago.I did not drop or abuse it but now the lens locked and all functions stopped. There is the " lens error" notification.I hate losing use of this camera because otherwise it is very good.
I bought my daughter this nikon cool pix l3 last year (2006) for christmas and now the lens is stuck and I get a lens error on the screen. Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.
See my posts on this problem. By forcing the lens with you fingers into the camera, it may put it on track. This can damage the camera even further, but may be worth a try. You can try to pull it out when starting, and then pushing in on turning it off. Worth a try, may work.
This error... lens error.. can be the result of many abuses. If the lens is held back as it is extending, it can damage the tiny parts. If the lens is bumped while it is extended, it may damage the internal parts beyond repair. Sometimes the lens get off track as a result of a blow while extended. If the camera is dropped, the lens mechanism can be damaged from the impact, even though it is not extended. If you treat a digital camera with a lot of care, and put in a padded camera bag, you may extend the life of the camera.
I think this was a firmware fault on some cameras. Check with Nikon to see if there is a new firmware for your particular camera. This can be downloaded free of charge and uploaded to the camera via USB.
Hi: If the camera has not been abused, such as dropping, impact of some sort, or restricting the extending lens, then there is an internal problem. See my other posts on suggestions of selling it.
