When doing this, you need to adjust your settings in the control panel for the audio. Usually it's defaulted to block sound when you plug in headphones. Make sure you are plugging them into the correct audio output, but it shouldn't play sound from both the headphones as well as the built in speakers.

make sure that your mic input is not muted. look under control panel/sound and audio devices, then under your microphone, select "volume" and make sure the input is selected (with a chack mark in the box under the mic volume control) and not muted.

I bought a creative (inspire M4500) 4.1 speaker system. but only 2 speakers work at a time.. do i need a 4 channel sound card. which one will be compatible with compaq presario V6000 laptops.

Obviously you require a 4.1 system audio/sound card for the best sound output since it has inbuilt amplifier and OS specific driver(latest) which you should get along with the sound card. If you are using, check compaitibility issues to with Vista....................sodeep

C785TU problem related to sound

When you plug the headphones in what happens is that inside of the jack the internal speakers  are disconnected and the sound goes to the headphones. If both are playing either the jack is not inserted far enough or  female plug is loose or defective.  Replace or repair the female plug.
