A disc was jammed in the tray while in Disc Exchange Mode (another disc was playing at the time). I turned the player off, removed the cover and cleared the jammed disc from the tray. Now whenever I turn the unit on the disc tray opens and closes automatically but won't play a disc or respond to any commands. Symptoms: Turn on power, the player hums for a few seconds, the tray opens and player hums again, then tray closes and repeats the same process over and over. I power cycled the unit to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
Tray timing is out of alignment, probably from tray being forced open or closed. Removed cover, removed screw from center of CD turntable, removed two metal clips holding sliding tray down on left side. I ejected tray assembly first and shut off power and unplugged unit lifted left side of tray and experimented with black gear that controls the lifting of disc and the ejecting and retracting of tray. Tried to adjust it to the ejected position as best as possible then powered up and retracted. Next power down and upplugged. Inserted a cd anywhere, note slot # plugged in unit turned on power. Watched disc indicator led's to calibrate with slot if the numbers don't match up, power down, lift up disc turntable to disengage from gear drive near center post and turn to align disc with laser and disc pickup and drive assembly. If tray is not in correct position too align with disc pickup and laser reader assembly lift left side of tray andmove on gear to addjust.
I have the same problem. I opened the player and watched the drawer slide in and out. There is a white spindle with a ramp along the inside of the spool. This spindle is supposed to turn and the drawer moves in. As it turns a pin attached to the laser assembly runs along the spindle's ramp. This raises the laser assembly so that it is fully engaged whent he drawer is closed. For reasons I could not discover the spindle was not turning. Further investigation would mean taking out the entire drawer and removing other gears and spindles.
My guess is that repair is more expensive than replacement.
Check to see if tray is out of alignmnet ..also check to see if 5 or 7 pin flat ribbon cable form servo drive board to tray got dislodged from connector or is bent, cut etc...

I checked the tray and the ribbon cables and they appear fine. Perhaps the problem is related to the fact that there was a disc playing in the player when the jam occurred. After I cleared the jam the disc was still in position to be read rather than returned to the disc tray. It seems that the unit is stuck in 'play mode' and won't release the disc and return to normal operation. Is there a way to reset the player or an override to make it release the disc? Any other ideas?
