I am posting this as potential help to anyone who needs the instructions to program an RCA Universal Remote. The model number inside the battery compartment is:
RC800L-C Date Code 1239. The user manual lists the following number for the remote on the cover: CRCU805MSL.
I recently got a larger CRT TV and could not find the instructions for my Universal Remote. I searched the net and even the RCA website but there was nothing for this model. The instructions for other RCA Universal Remotes I found did NOT work for this remote ! There is no reason the RCA site should not carry the instructions for this remote... Pathetic ! Anyway, after a little digging around I managed to find the original manual :) Here are the instructions to program for a TV.
NOTE: The procedure for other components (VCRs, DVD Players, etc) is the same, except that in Step 3, press the button for the appropriate component instead of selecting "TV". If you want to program an AUX device, follow the same steps but first press the "AUX" component button instead of "TV", then press the button for the type of component you want to use as AUX.
1. Turn on the TV
2. Press and HOLD the oval "CODE SEARCH" button until the red indicator LED comes ON, then release the "CODE SEARCH" button. The "CODE SEARCH" button is located right below the CH- (Channel Down) button.
3. Press and release the "TV" button. The indicator light will blink and then remain ON.
4. Enter the code for your brand of TV using the number buttons on your Universal Remote. You should be able to find the codes for your brand of component by going to the RCA website (http://www.rca.com). Then go to the "Accessories" section and then choose "Universal Remotes" and look for the link for the manufacturer codes.
5. After you have entered the code, the indicator light will turn OFF. If the code is not valid, the indicator light will blink. Check the code list and repeat the process using another code for you brand of TV.
6. Aim the remote at your TV and press the ON-OFF button. Your TV should turn OFF.
7. With the TV turned ON, press the CH+ (Channel Up) button. If the TV responds, no further programming is required.
Lastly, there is also a condensed set of instructions on a sticker on the inside of the battery compartment cover.
