Instruction for installing the QX3 Microscope with Vista
Note, DO NOT use the software from the CD that came with the microscope.
DO NOT plug in the QX3 microscope until Step 4.
Step 1. Install the QX3+ downloaded from Intel:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&Inst=Yes&ProductID=160&DwnldID=4419&strOSs=All&OSFullName=All%20Operating%20Systems&lang=eng
Step 2. Download and install the QCODINSTL Codecs software from:
http://www.intel.com/support/intelplay/qx3/sb/cs-016002.htm
Step 3. Download and extract the QX3 Drivers from:
http://hyperslug.s3.amazonaws.com/IntelQX3driverXP.zip
Step 4. Now, plug in the microscope.
When the "Found New Hardware" wizard appears, select "Locate and install driver software (Recommended)", a message "Installing device driver software" will appear. If you click on "details", you will notice see "Searching Windows Update", after a while you will be able to select "I don't have a disc. Show me other options" and browse to the folder with the extracted QX3 drivers from Step 3. above. The hardware should install successfully.
Double-click on the QX3+ icon on the desktop and the program should run.
Solution #3 by MMEHALL needs a 5th step ... Before you run the program, right click it, click on "Properties", click the "Compatability" tab, check the box next to "Run this program in compatability mode for:", then choose in the drop-down box "Windows 98 / Windows ME".
I had the same problem ("Your computer can't find all the necessary software components. Please reinstall QX3 software. (57)") but later noticed that there was a hidden window asking to reinstall the QCODINSTL codec with the proper compatibility mode set. After that the QX3 software worked (without the QCODINSTL codec installed, the application came up but didn't show any image).
I would suggest on right-clicking the qcodinstl.exe file and setting Windows 98/Windows ME compatibility before running this installer.
MMEHALL,
I tried your solution. I followed it step by step but the microscope comes on and I use it briefly. Now, if I close the program, I relaunch the progam, I just get any small clock and that is it.
Anyone have a further solution?
How about installing the divers for 64 bit version?
There are no Drivers and no support for this device according to intel and digital blue. F'ers.
Maybe a step closer...

Extract files to a folder.
When you plug in the USB cord, I tell it to look in that folder for the drivers and it should install.
You should already have installed both QX3plus.exe (and qcodinstl.exe if you needed it).
On Windows Server 2008, the program looks like it's getting started but the clock just spins so it looks like its hung up.
Let me know if you guys get further with Vista. And for those using Vista, always right-click -> "run as admin" to avoid privilege elevation issues or shut off UAC entirely. BTW, those drivers were extracted from QX3plus.exe.

I have the same problem. My QX3 scope doesn't work on Vista. Does anybody know of any drivers for vista?
Please email me.
I of course ran the disc supplied and it didn't work. I've done numerous searches to no avail.
Doesn't Intel and windows realise they are convincing us their products have no longevity and will end up as functional but unusable junk just adding to the pollution of our planet? come on Microsoft & Intel you guys are supposed to be the Big League... act like it! Provide drivers to make the QX3 work with Vista
I also need drivers for intel qx3 microscope i have vista os also.
I have installed the pach and the softwareand still have this.

Now it's 57 instead of 85. Any further hint?
