Question moved to a model category.
Please don't type in all CAPS, it is considered SHOUTING and is harder to read.

Likely to be a bad Print Head according to this and seems a known issue.

SOURCE: 5 flashes amber pixma ip3000

5 flashes amber means the print head is not installed properly (error code 1401) or the EEPROM data of the print head is faulty (error code 1403 or 1405).

Make sure the contacts on the printhead are clean, re-install and try again. If this fails a new printhead may be required. You may be able to re-initialize the EEPROM by entering the service mode.

I have an IP3000 printer and each time it is turned on it goes into error mode (the on light blinks amber 5 times then turns green for about 1 second then it flashes amber again

I. Make sure the printer is off but is plugged in

II. Hold down [RESUME] (Triangle pointed down) and hold down [POWER]
and wait 5 seconds or so.

Release [RESUME] but Continue to hold [POWER]. Double click [RESUME].
then Release [POWER].

Press [RESUME], than [POWER]. This should cause the printer to print a
simple diagnostic that'll list it's ROM number and list CDR SENSOR=OK
in red for the last line.
Press [RESUME] twice then [POWER]] to print off the second diagnostic.
Press [POWER] by it self to exit service mode and return to being a

Canon IP3000 error code

read entire solution first, see the 6 modes section.
First thing you need to do is print an EEPROM information page, step number 2 below.
Once you have an EEPROM print you can reset the waste ink counter, if needed, which is step number 4 below.
Service Mode: This printer has a service mode for service-related settings and for performing test prints. The operator panel buttons are used to enter the desired service mode.
Service Mode Operations
With the printer powered off, hold down the "Resume Button" and press the "Power Button".

While holding down the "Power Button", release the Resume Button" and press the "Resume Button" twice in succession. Now release the "Power Button".

The indicator will blink in green and remain lit in green.

Select one of the following service mode functions by pressing the “Resume Button” the specified number of times.

1 time = Service test print.
2 times = EEPROM information print.
3 times = EEPROM initialization
4 times = Waste ink counter resetting
5 times = Destination settings
6 times = Print head deep cleaning

Then press the “Power Button” one time to perform selected function.

If you press the "Power Button" two times it will take you out of service mode.

This information is listed above in this thread and many times in other Canon threads in this forum. I simplified Canons wording so I could remember the service mode functions easier.
