Carb, your choke is not set to close when cold, and should be set. When set, it also sets a cam that keeps the engine running fast. Then when warm, you hit the pedal and the cam moves, and the engine speed goes to normal. Unless the choke is set, the engine cannot keep running, as it tries to run on cold gas and it can't run good on cold gas. It needs more gas, therefore, and the choke makes more gas go into the engine.

Fuel Injected, the computer should adjust the amount of gas your car is getting when cold. If not, the coolant sensor might be bad.
The coolant sensor senses the cold engine and tells the computer to add more gas. Once the engine is warm, the coolant sensor tells the computer to put the gas to normal.

a little tip is to "vent" the topmost hot hose whith the engine running to clear any trapped air in system.....loosen the clip,whilst under pressure,wear rubber bloves cos it bloody hot.......

check the mas air flow sensor(is this the 6 cyl) the sensor has a problem with the nose piece inside not moving enough to tell the ecm the propper air flow for the cold start,also check throttle valve for dirt build up around it-if its a four cyl repost

It sounds like an engine temp sensor is open.. When your engine is cold or anti-freeze is cold your ECU or ECM gets a signal from the temp sensor for cold engine start. It would make sense that it works fine when hot because the resistance on the sensor is a lot lower. Take an ohm meter if you have one and check the resistance across the temp sensor pins. When the engine is cold the resisitance should be really high. Start and warm up your car to normal temp and check it again. It should be a lot lower now. If not replace it. Hope this helps.

Standing in front of your car with the bonnet open, you'l see your radiator pipes running to your engine. The centre pipe running to your Header should have a T-Piece with a sensor pointing upwards. (Normally a single wire connected to it) There should be a clip holding it down in its housing. That is your hot&cold start sensor. Replace it and your troubles will be over. To remove, simply pull the clip out to the side and pull out the sensor.
Please do not remove this when the car is warm! I have had some serious burns changing it while the car was hot.

if you have an electric cold start valve make sure to unplug it and if keeps apling fuel with electrical conector unpluged that means the valve is not good, but if not then you have an electronic problem, possible a bad cold start sensor or cold start module or cicuit problem, and might be a time to take it to an electrical shop
