Make sure there are no leaks from the machine. look behind it and check the water inlet hose and connectors for any damage. Also look under the machine for any water as this may indicate a leak from the internal hose and pipe work and / or water pump. Also check that the outlet hose is completely clear of debris and soap scum build up and check that the filter is clean. To keep the machine clean of waste build up and to keep any bad odours away 1.Remove all items from the washer. 2.Open the dispenser drawer and 2/3 cup (160 mL) of liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment. DO NOT use more than 2/3 cup (160mL) of bleach per cycle as this will lead to product damage. 3.Close the washer door and dispenser drawer. 4.Select the Clean Washer cycle or a full wash cotton 104 F wash (40 C). DO NOT use any higher temperature as this will cause unnecessary fumes 5.Press Start and allow cycle to complete. 6.After the cycle is complete, leave the door open slightly to allow ventilation and drying of the washer interior. 7.Repeat the cleaning procedure monthly

Sorry to say but the mildew odor is from excess use of detergent. The only way to truly get rid of it is to have the tub assembly torn down completely and cleaned out. Also replace the front door seal gasket to truly get rid of everything.
For temporary, you can use a chemical treatment called Whirlout or Affresh to mask out the odor but it won't totally get rid of it.
Good luck.
Buy some Affresh cleaner. You can find this at Home Depot. It should clean gookus from front boot. Also, take a dry rag and `clean the boot area of mold and mildew. I know some of my customers just leave the door open overnight to let it air our.

if you look inside washer there is a rubber rim on the inside around the openning. Look inside and you will find where the stink is coming from. Keep door open when not in use and wipe inside of rubber trim to keep the mildew out.
Try tossing a tad of dry baking soda in with the clothes in may take a time or two but it would be better than tossing the dryer. If it smells like mildew also maybe try placing some charcoal inside withe door shut, charcoal draws mildew.
Typically "sanitation" cycles require hot water....then they add more heat to the washer during the cycle. It is not 212 degrees, but it is very hot and does kill most germs.
The mildew smell is normally caused by water remaining in the system lines - because the water drain pipe is too high and keeps too much water inside after the system pumps the interior pan. Suggest that you just pour in some bleach after the last load...that should kill all mildew. Please do not overdo it. Only about 1/8th to 1/4 cup is needed to keep the mildew smell under control
Try doing just a hot bleach water "load". Also check underneath and around the machine to make sure it's not leaking. If it did or is and you can see the mildew just spray it with bleach.
