Hi,
I have an LG 1715S, just out of warranty. Suddenly a few days ago the screen went blank, and now if I turn it on and off again the picture flashes up for less than a second, then goes again. I've noticed that the screen is in fact still on, just very very dark.
I've opened it up and checked the power board for leaky/bulging caps and broken solder but can't find anything obvious. What I did see is a kind of light sooty deposit on the casing behind the power board. It's kind of under a big square black and yellow component (don't know what it is!).
Any ideas?
Thanks,
James
Change out C202- 680 uF 25 Volt electrolytic capacitor. Replace with 25 volt or higher. Observe proper polarity when replacing cap: (-) goes to the side with the black mark, check old cap before removing it to see. I just fixed the same monitor today.
Change the capacitors,680 uF 25 v for 680 uF 35 v and the mosfet
Call the manufacturer and buy an new power unit. It will cost you about $50.

I had the same problem. Reading up on the issue on the internet, i got the idea that their old power unit had some problems, so many unit went bad, and I have seen many of the same complaints. I have decided to take a risk and made an order. They have fixed the problem with the new power unit they offer. I have replaced the old (broken) unit with the new onw and voila, the monitor works again. It is a really simple switch too, only a couple of screws and a few connectors. Very easy to do.
I hope this helps.

I have a similar problem after an electric power failure. Monitor flashes a second after being powered on and then goes black.

I have the same problem..
Any solution?
I have the same problem, however to 'fix' it all i have to do is reboot the PC (which does not affect the power supply of the monitor) and its fixed.
makes me think possibly a driver issue????
