Have tried everything that I can find to stop the General error. Cleaned,cartridges,reset waste ink, etc. Still it won't go away. On start, goes through the pre clean and stops just before the main window comes up with the general error stating to check the manual. Purchased manual, nothing about General error is available! Need the program it calls for?

Delete all print jobs and turn the printer off. Remove any foreign objects from inside the printer. After a few minutes, turn the printer back on.

Epson general error

Sorry to disagree but a "General error" is rarely anything to do with the waste ink counter and more likely an issue with any number of other parts.

If the waste ink counter were at fault the message would include keywords like "Service required" whereas "General error" is just a generic catch all term for "It's far too technical for us to explain it to you so we won't".

All of that aside, the "General error" can still result from a waste counter reset, particularly when the cartridges in the printer do not have sufficient ink in them to allow a priming routine to complete. The printer assumes that a reset will be done with fresh cartridges (and originals at that) so if the cartridges are low it can bomb out with a general error because it knows it can't complete.

My printer said the waste ink absorber is full and need to be replace with a new one. where actually is the waste absorber and how i can replace in by my own?

The waste ink absorber is at where the cartridge rests.When you turn off the printer.Its a sponge pad assembly,which soaks the waste/extra ink from the cartridge while printing.When this pad is full of ink and it cannot soak more ink this waste ink absorber replacing indication comes up.To replace this the top portion of your printer needs to be removed.Its fitted with screws. Once the top is out you can replace the sponge pad by removing the cartridge resting mechanism.This sponge pad is stuck -up by double tape,you will need to pull that up slowly towards you and reinsert new pad in same manner as the old was placed. ------------------------ But there is also a reset procedure to be tried to clear the waste ink absorber error.Try this reset procedure couple of times and see.If this error goes away you can use your printer without replacing the pad. The procedure is as follows:---- 1) With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding
the Stop/ Reset button.
2) When the Power is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
3) When releasing the Power button and the Stop / Reset button (regardless of order), the printer will move into a
service mode. (Waiting for menu selection)

Canon Pixma iP1600 Printer problem

Hi there
You can try this it some times works.

Super Canon User's method of resetting IP1600
1.Press Resume button hold for 1 - 2 minutes (count to 1 to 15-16)
2.Open the cover right away
3.Release Both cartridges out and then put cartridges them back again
4.Close The Cover
5.Turn Off Then Turn On again.

You can download the Resetter tools program from my website.

1. Download software for Canon iP1200, iP1600, 2200 Printers.
2. Unzip downloaded file by etc
3. Run GeneralTool.exe
4. Select the connected USB port number from USB PORT
5. Click LOCK RELEASE, and select the applicable model name in SET DESTINATION
6. In CLEAR WASTE INK COUNTER, select MAIN or PLATEN. The selected waste ink counter will be reset. MAIN resets the main waste ink counter, PLATEN resets the platen waste ink counter.
If both the main and platen waste ink absorbers are replaced, reset both the main and platen waste ink counters.
